8g iPhone (£169) vs 8g iTouch (£199)

So let me try and get this right. The standard iPhone comes with a bootloader that is locked to one network. So you replace the bootloader, or unlock the bootloader?

Am i way off here?

Bootloader is DOS
Firmware 1.14 is Windows

Ziphone turns windows into region free, but wack on an older verison of DOS.

Bootneuter puts the latest version of DOS back on

Just picked it up fellars.

Turns out I started my contract with o2 on 11th september, so i'm allowed to migrate it all over which i have just done :) I'm happy with that as it means my insurance has happily migrated over aswell - and I get to utilise the web browsing etc which is what i ultimately wanted it for.

Lovely bit of kit :) My laptop is a macbook but my desktop is a vista pc, so i like how it has synced with outlook etc. I am letting it download this update now - I shall look into this jailbreaking malarky but I think i may be happy with the standard features.

Also arent 3rd party apps going to be release in June?

When 2.0 ships (which might be June, but I think it will be a bag of nails if it is) then there will be an official SDK for people to release official apps. Unfortunately the SDK is a bit neutered so you can't do some things that the current unofficial apps do so I'd imagine most people will still be jailbreaking and running unofficial apps alongside the official ones.

:) Cool. It's an astonishing piece for kit for £169 really.

I am selling my old N95 (which i hate) for 135, and my ipod video with charger + dock for £100. I found i never used more than a couple of gig on the ipod so :)

I may use my 'profit' to buy a case :-)

Just to clear things up;

Jailbreaking is the term used that allows you to put third-party apps on the iPhone, and use a different SIM, but on the same carrier as the iPhone. (e.g. Jailbreaking a UK iPhone would mean any 02 SIM would work, but all others wouldn't), and put 3rd party apps on.

Unlocking is the term used for those wanting to use any SIM.

Usually (these days anyway) the jailbreak is performed with the unlock which is why things get confused.

Hi guys, whats the easiest way of getting all my numbers across from my old phone/sim to this new iphone/sim?

I dont really want to jailbreak it in order to put my old sim in. If there are other options that'd be great :)

Oh - and it took about 5 minutes for my number to be transferred over! :D

Doesn't activating let you use another o2 sim? Even if you don't jailbreak.

I dunno i guess we shall find out. My fone book needs a prune anyway so i could just rinse them all in new lol. Is a way of 'learning' to type on the iphone i guess!
