Hazro 24" S-IPS, micro review + chat

I had to drop the brightness a few digits to 55 now as it was a bit too bright for web browsing hehe, re-ran monitor validator again after a recalibration and got dE: 0.95 - still pretty amazing :D

I will leave everything as is at the moment now until I hear word from hazro on what they're going to do with the fix because if it's a new panel swap then no point calibrating and testing further!

I assume the 24" would be better as the panel used in the 23" version uses an older IPS panel (similar to the Apple 23").

The panel reference for the Hazro 24" is 'LM240WU2' - if you enter this ref in the panel search at tftcentral you'll see that its similar to the one thats used in the highly regarded NEC2490.

EDIT:

The panel reference would also suggest that the NTSC Colour Gamut is 72% and not 92% as has been suggested eleswhere.

*I think we need Baddass to confirm all this though :)*

the HZ24W is definitely 72% NTSC colour gamut as per my review. See my post for explanation. I've asked the shop guys to update the spec too as listed here.

mrk: any chance you could look round the back of yours for where a vesa mount would be attached? Realised the stand from my old monitor is actually just a 100x100 vesa jobby so may use that for now (height+tilt). The Hazro is advertised as capable of mounting on such a vesa stand but I cannot for the life of me see how! Maybe Hazro need to provide a special adaptor plate like on the apple displays?

Ok today we should be expecting an email or phone call regrading the Vista fix, keeping this thread bumped !

Oh also forgot to check the vesa mount thing,

Looks like a stand should be easy to replace it with? just 4 nuts holding it onto the back of the panel.

Thanks for having a look on yours. Only problem is that doesn't look like the spacings for a 100x100 vesa mount as advertised in the specs; it looks like they'd need a special converter plate.

Yeah there has to be a plat for it, alternatively I think the base itself detaches from the stand so the VESA fitting could be on the other end not the monitor end!

Just had a call from Hazro about the Vista issue, they are still working on the fix and have 2 options in mind which they are deciding upon:

1: Firmware upgrade.
They will upgrade the firmware on existing screens to support Vista which will fix the pixel mapping and DPMS issue

or

2: AD board rework.
The board will be revised with a new version which would also introduce HDCP support.

I'm hoping it's the latter because then we get HDCP onboard so won't need to use a 3rd party device or software for it and also they asked questions on how I'd feel about HDMI connections on the revised 24" screen and how much extra I'd be willing to pay if a 24" revision came out with such extras but then you enter the realm of whether it's a professional computer monitor or a multimedia monitor, it would have to be marketed differently too. I'm hoping they do add HDMI as fiuture graphics cards will all have HDMI.

Fingers crossed for a swap soon with a revised 24" with mmore features :)

I was offered a refund but said I'd rather wait for the fix as it saves time and effort for both parties and I could not use another screen!

once the update is in place I'll also be enquiring about the VESA bracket and getting an Ergotron! this screen will be amazing with one as the cable connections on the back insert in straight instead of upwards so won't have odd wires hanging downwards like with every other screen!

Very happy with the responses so far and here's hoping for a nice gesture of swap with a revised 24" with HDCP for those of us who have reported the Vista issues and have been patient in waiting!

The firmware upgrade.....Did they mention whether the end user would be able to perform this, or would it be a visit from an engineer.

I'm pretty sure the FW upgrade on a monitor can only be done by opening the panel up and accessing the board so indeed it would be a visit or a direct swap with an already upgraded model from their stock. Also it's worth mentioning, out of 100 people they surveyed on the Vista userbase they found 28%/29% reported the issues already mentioned on this forum which is quite a high percentage so of course they are working fast to get it fixed!

I don't know if I agree that all graphics cards will have HDMI ports on them, I would imagine we would see more DisplayPort in the future (with it being royalty free, HDMI costs around $2 per port which mounts up on the slim margins most card makers operate at).

To be honest, I'd rather send mine in to have a new board fitted, I know this one is a good panel with no dead pixels :D

Well warranty services already have on file all the people that have reported the vista issues and they will be contacting us soon so I don't think it would apply to you if they fix it in a few days You're be bugger out of luck hehe! plus they've been reading this thread and the other thread so they will know!

If the pre-order date is correct, i'll be able to check out these issues when i get mine but i'd assume that the units OcUK will get in are the same as the panels already discussed!!

I think you'll be getting a fixed one! so you should have it good either way, either a fixed one or a fixed one with HDCP/HDMI !!!

Hazro know of ocuk and will want to fix any issues asap before mass units begin to ship out no doubt!

I doubt very much they have fixed the units, id bet you get the same ones as everyone else has.... a fix would surely take weeks to take into effect ;)
