My aunt has a zs and it is shocking.

Before rover went bust she took it on their annual ski holiday to switzerland, got out there and parked it up. We she tried to start it again it wouldn't go. Managed to get it towed and it took nearly a week for rover to tell the local mechanic what the problem was, because he said it was an ignition barrel failure and they disagreed and wouldn't send him a replacement part. Eventually they got it sorted (delayed their return), got back to the UK to be told that it is a known failure on those cars.

Also it rattles, rattles from behind most panels. Whilst they were still going she tried to get it fixed under warranty but had no luck.

Why would they refuse to send him the part when the Rover parts business was/is a completely separate entity and make their money out of selling parts, not diagnosing faults. It wouldn't be a warranty repair as they would have got it taken to the nearest Rover dealer.

I reckon he's had to replace the tyres and refill it :p

:P

No just that I'll be buying a car to do 50 miles a day in in august, with budget of 7-8k. If the mg zt would be ok, the mk2 diesels can be had for 6-7k which would leave me with change :)

for 50 miles a day I wouldn't pick an ZT or ZS. No idea about the diesels but the petrols are thirsty!!!

I did 45 miles a day in the 530i then later 90 miles a day and it was far better than most other stuff I can think of for the task

Right. What do you get on a motorway journey though? 37ish?

I thought the ZS and ZT would be lower than that.

Thoroughly depends on your driving style and route. I wouldn't have thought it unreasonable to get 30+ from the ZT on a run.
