also as a side note i found in the box to my over priced PSU that i brought from a high street store, what looks very much like an 8 pin pci cable. to say i was suprised is an understatement, just need the card to test if its the right cable now

like a jet taking of zoooom

it cant really be that loud can it. i mean i stepped from a 7800gt to a 8800gts g80core , difference was amazing, i gotta say at least now i can hear again. the 7800gt wasnt bad in idle but in load, it is like a harrier jet and it still ran at 80c. how times have changed.

I've been playing Crysis in DX 10 mode with everything on Very High except Shadows and Motion Blur on High. Getting about 30fps like this which is perfectly fine in Crysis IMO.

Say what you like about the game but the actual graphics are on another level, its seriously crazy. I myself quite like the gameplay as well!

Nope

Hiya..what resolution are you playing that at mate? seriously tempted to get one next week.

yes, loudness is another thing i want to know.

can you use Rivatuner to turn fan to 100% and see how that compares with 8800GTX at 100%??

Only cos I cant be 'rsed to google, anyone know when the 55 refresh is due?

Last "leaked" report was 2-3 months and that it was always meant to be 55nm but they had problems so released it on 65nm just to get it out before ATI got theirs out.

How much truth in that, who knows but Nvidia for sure and they aren't going to say "new cheaper, cooler, faster stock clock GTX280 out next month" as nobody would be buying them today.

So that fits in quite well with waiting for the nehalems then :D

Either that or the GTX2 or 4870x2

there's bound to be something else just around the corner by then

Doubt you will see a GTX2. Have you seen how big the chips are?

Too complicated to make and too expensive. A GTX2 would really have to be a minimum of twice the price so around £800 and maybe £700 once they had one out.

Nvidia seem to be wanting people to go dual, tri and quad SLI in the future so they will just want you to buy two GTX280's or now they have their mix and match SLI driver out, you can now SLI with a GTX280 and a GTX260. Not sure why you would though. ;)

From Fudzilla. I got 13066 on E6600 as comparison

So pretty close really. I think I've seen GTX280 getting 15000 on a quad so that means a 4870 scores about 83% of a GTX280.

The crunch will be how the extra memory, memory bandwidth affects the game framerates.

What should I check its temps with?

btw: Folding Client out

I think 06 is pretty much dead as a meaningful benchmark these days.
