iPhone 2.0 firmware available now

I just followed MacRumors' guide to do the OFFICIAL firmware update!

Apparently the one released just before the 3G was in fact FOR the 3G version, they arn't sure what the difference is but recommended.

Nothing major I guess, but it has managed to wipe clear a game I purchased on the phone! :(

Loving this 2.0 update!!! It's been a long time coming.

I'll ask again since it got blanked the first time round........

Question.....

If you buy an App say in itunes for the itouch, do i have to pay for it again for the iphone? Or does the app apply to my account and not the device?

It would be synced back to iTunes under Applications, of course it would be transferable! Filed just like music, movies & tv shows. All transferable to other iPods.

Wether or not it can be on BOTH at the same time I dunno.

Just downloading it now too.

Ive become rarther acustomed with 'virtual purchases' the last few days, so i dont mind shelling out £6 for what should really be free. :p.

Pulled it down earlier and it's been doing it's thing to install it for quite a while now, (what with the backup and recovery of the ipod's contents).

The recovery of the music and video back onto the ipod did fail the first time for some reason (all the machine is doing is that and I wasn't near it at the time) but it's almost finished on a second recovery attempt after I had to reconnect it after it failed the first time.

Somebody else on those forums... said:
I read in the O2 help pages that any O2 original iphone can be updated to 2.0 and activated as O2 PATG, think they want people already using O2 to be legal.

So I decided to give it a go and have a legal O2 PAYG (I am sure you could also use a O2 PAYG sim to activate then use any O2 contract sim as well!)

1) I updated my jailbroken 1.1.4 original iphone to O2 yesterday to v 2.0 and activated with iTunes without a problem, by just agreeing T&Cs and entering Apple ID.

2) I effectively registered with O2 on their website, they say its to turn on MMS notifications but I reckon its mainly so they know how many original iPhones they'll have on PAYG

3) Then changed the APN in Network settings to payandgo.o2.co.uk so that EDGE works (yay)

4) Finally I added the unlimited Web and WiFi bolt-on for PAYG original iPhone.

All working perfectly so far...

Mine failed too the first time, I unplugged and replugged the ipod back in and itunes prompted to continue the restore, which then worked fine.

I'm liking the applications, downloaded a few free ones for now - I'm sure over time there will be thousands available and the quality of the purchasable ones will improve. One good thing about Apple I suppose.

I'm really considering doing the upgrade with people saying the activation will work fine. Then I can Jailbreak when Zibri releases his stuff...

app store my friend!

search for phonesaber

Thanks, yep found it and downloaded it

No option to sync it in iTunes though, im thinking that will come once the phone is 2.0?

Wish those dev's would hurry up my paitence is starting to wear out allready :P

must resist must resist lol

voda is not the official iphone carrier in Spain I believe.

Have just read some more and I think they have the pwnage iphone 2.0 unlock tool. Hopefully will be available soon.

Got my iphone upgraded to 2.0. Did that bug thing where itunes just automatically activates your iphone if you have any o2 sim card. Having a play now, thinking of getting monkey ball, looks sweet :D

The remote control thing is stunning. Really well made.
Wonder if i can use it with other peoples iTunes?

The only flaw with the apps is that most of the useful ones require a constant data connection, a la iPhone.
As a result, theres only a 5 ive bothered with: Remote, Facebook (can use with WiFi at home), Cube Runner, eReader (which im hoping i can put my own pdfs into) and a dictionary app.
