^ UT3 is good for testing these cards/drivers, always used to use it with my 4870 to test if any changes i made fixed the problem. Same with any other Unreal Engine 3 game (Mass Effect, Bioshock), they make it crash quicker than other games.

Stock. Same settings as I used with GeForce 8800 GT, and that never had a black-screen problem.I meant is your CPU or RAM overclocked? thats what i had to clock down slightly to stop the X2 doing what you have, from 3.81GHz on my quad to 3.79GHz.. Even though a GTX 280 and 260 were fine on the same system @ 3.81GHz, and prime95 and memtest were all stable for hours.
are you absolutely sure it wasn't the overclock causing your problems then?![]()
so whats the verdict with the 48xx cards with vista 64? best to stay clear of them is it?
this black screen issue sounds like the overheating vrm issue.??
4870 on Vista 64 here, no problems whatsoever with the drivers, only time i have had a display driver recovery is when i OC to far otherwise everything runs sweet.
No problems here with a 4850. Still using the hotfix drivers, not tried the new Catalysts yet.
8.6 hotfix here and not had a problem.
8.7 Final and Vista 64 not had a problem.
Could be an issue with the card.
8.6 hotfix and vista 64 and 4870 and no probs here
Anyway 8.7's here on vista x64 and no problems. I did have problems installing them though even on fresh install (driver wouldn't load up after restart), dloaded the driver package and ccc seperately and that sorted it (instead of the all in one). May be worth uninstalling, cleaning and then trying that.
No problems for me, I'm on the official 8.7's.
Vista 64 bit, sp1.
My 4870X2 runs fine on Vista 64-Bit with dual displays, had none of the crashes i got with the 4870. The X2 does use different drivers though to anything currently availible for the 4870. Or it could just be differences with the hardware.Yeah Same Vertigo, I was planning a new 4870x2, 8600 core2, Vista 64bit and a few bits until I saw this thread
I cant live without dual screens these days
Tomorrow i'm going to grab the spare 19" TFT I keep in case of emergency, hook it up, and use both it and my 2007FP for 24-48 hours.
I want to see if I can replicate this problem.
No it's SLI that can't deal with multiple monitors, Crossfire has never had a problem with it so the X2 should be fine.
(Note I'm talking about general multi-monitor support here, not this specific driver issue - couldn't say what the status of this is with the X2s)
