Goodbye City-Link, hello DHL

I've just got off the phone with DHL. I have a motherboard on its way, that is meant to be delivered today. However, this "DHL Home delivery" service can deliver as late as 8pm - not very useful for me getting it delivered to my work address. The guy at DHL (rather unhelpful, I must say) said people usually pick the parcels up in the morning, then deliver them in the evening after their other jobs, so they are mostly delivered late afternoon/evening.

Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, could be useful for some people, but perhaps OcUK needs to make it a bit clearer that this service isn't great for delivery to a place of work. I'm not sure if the "dhl select" is more suitable for that, but a bit of clarity would help!

In the meantime, if nobody is here to collect it at that time, they can either redeliver here tomorrow, redeliver it to a different address monday or tuesday (!), or have it able to be collected friday/sat morning, unfortunately the opposite side of london to me. DHL themselves were not very helpful about this, and tried to blame OcUK for allowing this delivery type to a business address.

Okay, I got my motherboard, bit of a saga but DHL performed well throughout, so thought I'd relay it here.

As I mentioned above, got DHL "Home delivery service" to my work address, unaware that they could deliver til 9pm. (Partly my fault, partly OcUK's for not giving enough information about the delivery options!). As the office closed at 6, I needed to make alternative arrangements.

Called them up and the first guy I spoke to, Craig, was unhelpful. He said they would redeliver to the same address the next day, or if I wanted a new address that would be monday or tuesday! If I wanted to pick it up myself from the depot, that would be saturday or monday as well. Very annoying, not at all helpful. Lots of "Sorray, dannow" if you know what I mean.

I rang back 20 minutes later, and spoke to another chap called Mark who was exceptionally helpful. He said he'd put in a request for the package to be delivered by 5:30, and if they couldn't do that, to keep it at the depot so I could pick it up friday morning. Much better! Also gave me a number for the local depot to call them up and chase them if I didn't hear back from them in 40 minutes.

I gave them a call, and got through to a lady who said she would call the driver a call and see when he was due to do the delivery - I was very impressed! CityLink simply never pick up their phones or when they do, they will never contact the driver or be able to give specifics about delivery. Anyway after being on hold for 2 minutes, she told me he was in the area and would be there within 15 minutes, which he was, and I got my package!

So all in all, they coped with a difficult situation well, and a LOT better than City Link ever did. Just make sure you don't choose home delivery for a business address, but still I'm very pleased with their service indeed.

BBI2H, got to install that motherboard now! :D

City link have the same sytem when i last talked to them a few weeks ago. theres two different delivery vans for an area, one for lights stuff and another for items over 2kg, in my case the light delivery came about 10am and the heavy deliv about 1pm. just got dhl deliv today and dont have anything to complain about :). last time with citylink they kept tryin to deliver to the wrong address, either that or they just couldnt be bothered to deliver to me :( !

I really dont like these reports about DHL as i said before i never had any problems with city link and would much rather use them. A choice would be nice. It seems like DHL use part time drivers. Plus i dont like the idea of waiting up 2 9pm for a delivery.

I was going to order a new tv or monitor on monday but some of these reports have put me off and 10 quid delivery charge seems hefty. I dont want a 300 quid plus monitor deliverd by some muppet in a car tbh, i want a big van !!!

Any one had experiances with DHL in the east yorkshire hull area?

I may ring ocuk see if they can sort a city link delivery for meeee.

There was always something about city link that i did not like, the delivery guys seemed so unhappy lol, Wonder what DHL are like :) i like to befriend the delivery people, considering i order of OCUK at lest once a week :)

Had my cpu/mobo/psu arrive this morning at 11:00 (ordered yesterday).
Box didnt look like it had been used as a makeshift football which already makes them better than CityLink.
All good so far.

citylink sheffield were always fine with me!

The depot wasn't far to collect & stays open nice & late so that even i can make it after work & i rarely finish before 7pm!!

The DHL depot is miles away from me & will not be viable at all.............

im from hull and the citylink service was great, happy drivers and always at around 10am. dhl was good too but item got here later

It all depends on the drivers, so some are ***** and others are very nice. City link has been ok for me, but if DHL can provide a mobile number of the driver, that is amazing service. Normally they would be stuck up and make you wait the next day or till he arrives at the depot for you to collect.

No swearing

Looks like I will have to shop elsewhere then. I am only 400 yards from my DHL depot on the same road and they can never find my address. Never had a problem with Citylink and always have a problem with DHL.

Should be getting DHL delivery today - though if arrive in afternoon no-one will be in so I'll have to drive to depot tomorrow. Anyway, got confirmation email with tracking number and decided to have a quick check now to see if it had been delivered but hit a problem ... email with tracking number is at home and I'm at work ... and the tracking number is *not* stored with the order details on my account pages.

Please if at all possible can you get the system to add any tracking numbers to online order details (many other sites manage this) as while getting tracking number with dispatch email is great I'm sure I'm not the only person who may want to check tracking details on a different system from where they get there email delivered!

Well another happy customer, recieved all my watercooling bits and new gfx card today. Was meant to have delivery yesterday but due to the terrible weather they couldnt.

No problems here :)

I can see the benefit of offering evening deliveries, but City-Link have always been super reliable for me delivering between 7-8.30am.

DHL on the other hand put a card through the door with my house number on it and the one on the parcel at the Depot was my house number -10. Complete waste of time and fuel plus I could have just taken it anyway, but it was a JML box :D
