The gap beween them in that graph makes it look a lot more than a single frame. 
Of course; instantaneous framerate is 1/frametime_interval. Also, a non-integer framerate average is perfectly valid, even if the averaged data is rounded to the nearest integer FPS.

Well yea I accept it's valid, but which software out there actually lets you do this is my question or is that done from in game?
FRAPS. It will output frametimes to the nearest millisecond (1/1000 second).
I'll be buying one of these immediately when they're out, for my 30". And unlike the X2 i had i'm sure it will just work properly from day one without the BSOD's, i7 system crashing, need for multiple new drivers and hotfixes and still have issues remaining, like with Dead Space performance for a start.

Tbh I don't really see the difference in driver stability and reliability with regards to ATI and Nvidia cards. I had all sort of drivers issues with the 4870 at the time as well the 280.
As time went by both seemed to improve with both companies drivers still not fixing minor niggles that should have been sorted a long time ago. I still get random downclocking in L4D with nvidia drivers and the last time I used the 4870 with the ATI drivers with 2142 the shadows looks like lego bricks.
With that in mind I expect there to be some sort of minor issues from these new cards.
TBH the ATI drivers were seem to be perfect for me when using single screen but a nightmare in dual screen mode. While the Nvidia was terrible in single screen mode but perfect in dual monitor setup.

In reality, that's how things are, it's just the fanboys that try to make out one side is perfect, while the other has faults non-stop. The fanboys, and ignorant people too, who don't/won't appreciate that just because they haven't experienced something that it doesn't make it impossible.
I can't stand when people go on about how 'ATi's drivers are nothing but trouble, but NV's work out the box' or 'NV drivers are terrible, they don't work full stop, this is crap I'll never buy *insert brand* again' and base it all on their limited experience.
It's gauranteed that for every person that complains about their issues with either brand, there's 10 times that who have no issues at all.
All that 'it doesn't work it's crap' stuff makes me cringe!

Though of course there are people with real issues, I occasionally have a hard time getting the latest catalyst update to install, but I'm used to issues it's part of being an enthusiast in my opinion.ATI's drivers are crap. This is from experience of owning there cards myself and building 50+ systems with them. Unlike many kids on here who have owned 1 or 2 cards and think they know everything, i'm talking from loads of experience. Even tech review sites like Anandtech are now beginning to mention these issues when review ATI hardware.
Even just getting them to intall, which you even admitted, isn't a rare problem. NV have problems, they just are not anywhere near as common. Industry standard for a reason.

Neither do i, imo it just looks like ATi have more problems as they do more drivers, they do a set every month, where as Nvidia only do 3 sets a year.
When both companies release a driver, there is always lots of posts from people having problems with them, but the only difference is, that happens every month with ATi, where as for Nvidia, its only once every 6 to 8 months it happens, as thats how far their drivers could be apart.

Fanboys really need to get laid. Seriously, neither side are perfect. Stayed with Nvidia for 5 years and had no more or less problems than with ATI. Won't be any need to upgrade for a while. There are just too few games out there. And those that are there are seriously lacking in quality.

Its not just drivers imo - was testing a PC the other day with a 4830 in it and it was crashing a lot (display driver recovery, etc.) and would get some nasty slowdown in games - tried the card in one of my PCs and it was rock solid stable (actually quite impressive performance compared to the 8800GT I took out to test it) tho I still don't like the ATI drivers
tried an nVidia card in the original PC and no problems...
