Acer G24 Screen

Right ok, i've had about enough of this problem. I don't think I deserve to sit and put up with this monitor in the state that it is in. I've sent an email to Acer:

I'll do this one last time, so they better send me a replacement that works how you would expect from a £350 monitor to work.

ive been contemplating sending mine back, but the backlight bleed isnt noticable when using it my problem is i need anotehr monitor before i RMA this one! and i always planned on having 2x of the same, but i'm not going to buy another G24 until i get this sorted... so i guess il have to buy a cheap £50 monitor when i get round to it...

yea man you go Loque!

about time someone did this (even though i dont have a G24, i find it unacceptable for how bad it is.)

You should definitly sort something out. The more people that send theirs back, the more Acer will hopefully realise that they simply cannot expect people to be happy with this monitor, at the price it is.

Don't you have an LCD TV you can connect your computer to in the mean time? do you have any friends that have a spare monitor you can borrow?

I will be most interested in hearing how acer reply loque.

Im thinking of sending mine back too. On boot it is fairly bad but thats ok i guess. When i put a black screen on with dead pixel buddy, the left and right sides of the screen have pretty bad bleed, while the top and bottom are ok (slight bleed). I hate to say it but i think it is getting worse. when i got it first it seemed fine.

I will arrange a camera again and take some pics to illustrate soon. When the picture is not dark it is great and i love the monitor.

same as me, when I first got mine, it wasnt too bad, but a few days later it got really bad. Do post some pics though, id'e like to see how bad yours is.

all my mates are using their monitors! i think ill have to get around to buying another moniter to last me when i RMA it, its just i'll have to do with a crappy 15" or something for a month or so, which kind of puts me off! but i will have to do it soon, i know... im not happy having spent £350 on getting a monitor with such an amazing contrast ratio, only for one side of the screen to loose a touch of colour... its not noticable playing games or when im using it really, as i said before the only times ive noticed it and its annoyed me is when playing Fallout 3 or The Witcher and when im outside and its pitch black, you look at the stars because they look amazing and then you notice the loose of colour on the right hand side... its a bit like, look at your windows sidebar in the aero theme, it has a dark gradient that transfers into your desktop, when my screens black this is exactly what it look like but the dark gradient is a light gradient going into darkness.

ahh well, at least i know its not an isolated problem... i guess i wont be buying a proper 2nd monitor for gaming until i find one that is as good without the issues...

I have to say when my PC boots up i can now notice backlight bleed on the top and bottom, the top isnt so bad but the bottom is kind of annoying, Once PC has loaded to windows i dont see it at all and as the only games im playing at the mo are Left 4 dead and CS i dont notice it. Only when booting up

well best thing to do is to just keep RMAing our monitors untill we get one that works normally. Acer will get tired eventually, and end up sending us one that they know works fine.

Hi guys! I want to buy this monitor, the main purpose is ps3 and xbox360 gaming. So I have a question - is this monitor overscans hdmi input signal? I hate overscaned picture. For now I have a ViewSonic vx2435wm, this is a great display with ability to turn off overscan, but it start to blackout for some reason, so I have to buy something new.

Yes you can turn of overscan its called 1.1 pixel mapping.

Setting 1:1 is not exactly turning off overscan.. Ok, that's the question:
You connect ps3 or xbox to this monitor and set 1080p output in console settings, and 1:1 in display settings. Is there vertical black borders on the left and right sides of screen or just two top and bottom horisontal 60px borders ((1200 - 1080) / 2)? With no overscan 1:1 pixel mapping must completely fill display area with just these two top and bottom borders.
Another sign - if you launch web browser at ps3, do you see address bar completely, isn't letters "http" cutted off?
Image must not be overscanned at both 1:1 and aspect pixel mapping (many ps3 games outputs video in 720p, 1:1 is bad idea here).
P.S. Sorry for my bad English..

Acer are arranging to pickup my monitor again. I have a feeling this time they'll make sure I get a replacement that works properly.

Hi guys just recieved my G24 from OCers briliant service and no problems thus far. Just one annoying niggle. The monitor came out of the box way too bright - brightness 85, contrast 50. I was wondering what everyone changed theirs too to get the bast picture, im currently at brightness 75, contrast 16 and have no idea if this is the best picture possible despite playing round with it for ages (colour at factory preset of everything at 100) btw im using the eDisplay management software to adjust the monitor not the controls on the screen.

Second question is when loading windows the monitor runs at its factory preset and changes to mine once windows has fully loaded. Any idea how to make it always use my preset even when loading windows (ive checked use my preset as default in eDisplay management) Would changing the factory settings to mine be a good idea

Cheers guys much appreciated!

on the netbook atm ill check my brightness levels and post when i get back in. think its 60 brightness 50 contrast but ill confirm that later.

mine was a little bright out the box but nothing using the software didnt correct. I just set it using the software guide adjusting it as instructed on each section. Now i dunno if the colours are officially 100% correct but who cares unless you work in art. All colours on this monitor pop out and are extremely vivid... Basically it looks great. brightness and colour is not any sort of problem with this screen. just use the software or onscreen menu to adjust your till you feel your happy. how about doing the onscreen options first then eDisplay management software that way when you boot it will be set then when xp loads it will fine tune.

try Winamp and put its visualization on... and prepare for drool :D

nice one buddy, thanks a load! Im really impressed with the monitor so far and luckily i dont have any blacklight bleed. Just to confirm, if i change the settting using the controls on the bottom of the monitor itself not the software it will always load windows/run a ps3 via hmdi using those settings?

i believe so mate :) not sure on the ps3 bit would be nice to know myself as im getting a ps3 soon for mine too. But loading windows yeh as its the onscreen menu itself and doesnt need xp to load before applying the eDisplay management software. Mines perfectly ok looking turning on then when xp loads i notice it apply the fine tune. :)

Ive played the killzone 2 demo on the monitor and all i can say is wow......incredible. The PS3 looks stunning on this monitor in 1080p :-)
