NEC LCD24WMGX3 Professional Gaming 24" Widescreen

EOL?? owww come on, so how long left? Im looking to buy 1 in about month!

Well, OcUK have 3 left and then they're gone from this shop. You might be able to find one retail at some othere online shop but probably at a expensive premium price, or risk buying one on sites like ebay at a reasonable price.

With monitors, technology seems to be at a stand still, which is exactly why you haven't seen fit to replace your monitor. The high end monitor choice is already horribly restricted and they all have their various flaws, it's a shame that the least flawed of the bunch in my opinion will soon be gone.

Yes, I'm expecting my 24WMGX3 to be the first and last LCD I buy. The "good" LCDs are just so expensive that I would want any of them to last for years. I will only replace this (barring dropping it or something stupid) with an OLED. They should be widely available and affordable when that time comes.

Meh, OLED was supposed to be out this year - I think it was Samsung who claimed they'd have OLED monitors by 2009. And what's the latest with SED? That looked promising for a while...

Oh well who knows, NEC might do a surprise launch when they phase this out lol.

So no TN Panels have excellent colour production? every TN Panel is crap?

I also don't buy this EOL stuff either, whats to say they wont release something thats better. . . .

Nelly, are you saying that there are still decent TN 24 panels. If so, which ones please?
Thats what I'm really asking, is their any good TN Panels with excellent colour production.

Don't really care about viewing angles if all I do is stick in front of the PC all night. :)

Theyve really just gone eol???

Yup. If you look at NEC's website they're no longer listed.

NEC originally priced this screen at around £600 as they assumed the gaming market would jump on it but it was simply far too expensive. We ended up doing several large quantity deals to get them moving and net result was that it turned in to a good seller. Unfortunately...NEC were making a £200 loss per screen to get rid of them.

We were due to buy another batch from NEC's German stock that they couldn't shift but at the last minute an education buyer out there decided to make a higher bid :(.

Surely if they were losing £200 at £400 then they would've only been breaking even at £600?

no cause you are forgetting about retailer markup.

For example say it cost NEC £500 to make the screen and they sell the retailer at £550 (£50) profit for the retailer to sell at £600 list price (retailer makes £50 profit)

To shift them they end up flogging a shed load to ocuk for £300 = £200 loss per screen and ocuk sell for £400 and make £100 profit.

Okay the actual figures won;t be right but you see the principal.
