*******Official Armed Assault 2 thread of official officialness*******

Is there a general consensus regarding cpu's. Will a quad core clocked to about 3500 be much of an improvement over my dual core clocked @ 4000. When I first started playing I thought I was fine but some missions where there is allot going on my fps plummets. Changing graphics settings does not help much.

I would guess - yes

my frame rates seem consistant most of the time (Q6600 @ 3.5 gig) - and all 4 cores are definately loaded to some extent

Anyone else getting securom errors? I start up the game and it says that wrong disk is inserted... really annoying me. I usually download games, and I go out of my way to buy this, now I'm thinking why do people pay these companies?!?!

It's fine on first run, but if i close Arma and reopen it later im presented with that message, I then have toreboot to play it again.

Yes saguy a quad will beat it (going by cpu speeds you posted, there's a german article which shows the differences, and it showed quads have the edge over duals)

To anyone getting addon-errors when applying patch 1.02 my os is vista x64 btw (seen a few posted about errors concerning Addons folder etc)
I found i had to remove and re-install arma2, then with a clean install apply patch 1.02 (easy enough as you're advised not to use pre-1.02 saves in patched 1.02)

Well i'm off to find a server :)

Any one got the link to the guide that was posted a few days ago in this thread? It had pictures of the game on different settings and you could click each setting to see how the game looked? Had a search, but can't find it :(

This one?
God I am loving this game. Closest thing to photorealism I have played and one of the first I think, where I actualy love the third person view. Using the "Look" while moving is so cool; hmm, can I wangle a Trackir somehow. :D

I am not sure what guide you mean (are you talking about graphic settings ?), but I know this guide has been posted before:
http://ttp2.dslyecxi.com/

If graphics it may be this one:

Edit: Beaten ! ...and in english too...

So I just failed one of the early missions where I had to locate some guy hiding in one of three camps - I got the report that he was crossing the border in a car, or something, in the midst of an assault on a camp. So (after numerous attempts) I aborted the assault, and headed off on foot to intercept the car. No chance.

So, the next mission, starts off on bicycles. Oh joy. I get on my bike, cycle in a circle, hit my other team mates and we all die. W T F.

Just getting into it now and it seems like an awesome game, but im struggling to see why the world is so big?! Can i just go off mid mission and explore without fearing for the rest of my squad?

The world is so big because it is a game with unlimited scope and potential. I am an OFP vet and take it from me that Arma2 is ultimately going to be all about the mission editor. In that, you can go off and explore to your hearts content ;)

still struggling a bit in the mission editor to get planes/helicopters etc to attack troops

set up waypoint open fire at will/search and destroy but they just fly about

I am curious what kind of frame rates are you getting with that rig. That is quite a hefty overclock and Arma 2 seems to like CPU power.

Not brilliant, a rough guess would be average 40ish @1280x1024. Virtually everthing high, not found the perfect setting yet.
I was gutted when I read somewhere that mhz don't count with this game it's cores. :(
It can drop to under 16-17 sometimes though only for a second, can go up to 75 too though generally 50 with no action and 30's with action. Not brilliant as I say and really hope for some kind of tweak or performance patch.. The game does have to be seen to be believed.
I was getting a bit peeved with the performance yesterday after the 1.02 patch. Performance seemed to be worse with stuttering, plus I had to esc to menu to get rid of blur all the time.
Did a fresh instal of windows 7 again and decided to have a quick play with the settings with ArmAmark, then just play the game some. The armory is a scream and can be as fun or as intense as you like. I still haven't managed to do the first helicopter taxi mission, getting better, though that old git scuppered me last try. :D

You have an I7 do you think my trusty Q6600 at 3.2ghz will still cut it?

Real dilemma as I really want trackir 5. But then this game runs poo with 8800 GTX. And then I have a nvidia CM 690 and I'd be housing an ATi card :)

Seriously thinking of cancelling my trackir 5 order and getting a 4890 instead. Would I really see a massive difference compared to my 8800GTX?!
Not you as well :D

I can see the sales of top end hardware going up this month. I am now on the look out for a decent overclockable quad for my motherboard, any suggestions?

Obviously will be a bit slower but not enough to warrant spending on an upgrade unless you are rich, its still a quad core and with a good gpu like a 4890 the game would be playable at high settings, the 8800 was pretty poor and would only be playable med-low settings I would say.
