Just got my first noblemen :) need to produce steaks now though! I'll post screenshots tonight. My supply of linnen is really limited so my envoys keep revolting due to shortages of carpets :(

don't forget that spices are made on the orient islands so you'll need to ship them to your main island, same goes for indigo (for books and stuff) and other things like quartz and the like.

i like to have all but the core manufacturing - stone, hemp, wood, tools and cider on my main island, then have manufacturing islands and ship stuff in, it's worked quite well so far :) and keeps everything nice and tidy!
 
Anno should come with a free pack of 250x sheet of A4 paper, I think I've gone through that already just writing stuff down like stock levels and sorting out under/over producing islands/plants :P Couple of pics of my population and one of my Hemp, Cider and Linen farms. Currently at 2,643 people. Highest being Patricians, not got Noblemen yet, still trying to provide fully for the Patricians :/. 140,000 gold (+350 income rate excluding sales of my wares) which ain't too bad.

Biggest / most nicest looking buildings I can produce at the moment are Church's, which do look really nice in post card view :) Only thing I'm struggling with at the moment is being able to produce Coffee at a good rate. I've got 2 farms and 2 plants and still struggling to supply a small 35-ish house Oriental settlement.

On the campaign atm and have been asked to make a Nomad settlement of 150 people..

Yet each house ONLY has 1/15 occupancy :s
 
I just built a bazaar and stuck nomad houses around it, job done.

Flibby - how do I get the postcard view? I thought the camera was fixed to zoom and rotate?

Literally every house just has 1 person in it, they are satisfied with Dates and Friendship etc :/
 
Reading this thread I just wondered how adequate the manual to 1404 actually is?

Are you all going by experience of prior Anno games and trial-and-error, or is any documentation really that lacking?

I've played 1701 a lot and read the manual just because I found that I couldn't really get anywhere without it, so do the instructions to 1404 not mention all you need to know?
 
I've never played 1404, or any other 'Anno' game, nore have I read the manual.

I just played the "quickstart" for a bit and it gave me an idea of what to do, it's hardly rocket science once you're rolling. However, a manual would have been nice for reference- I guess there's one in the Steam download folder somewhere?
 
Agree with what others have said, great game.

Regarding needing a manual, I think its probably more useful in this than most games however I didnt use one and was an anno newbie too and picked it up pretty well. The Campaign is almost a tutorial to the continuous mode.

That calculator is great, I'd found the german one but never knew there was en english one. Had already worked it out and written it in text format for the ol' 2nd monitor though, Certainly helps to work out an efficient economy.
