Windows 7 installed in under 6 minutes (using a USB drive but still) :) A total of 9 minutes including the following reboots, set up stage (name, CD key, network, etc) and performance evaluation.

9 minutes to install windows 7 - LOL - what kind of DVD drive you got? It takes about 10 to copy and uncompress files of the dvd rom

Reading comprehension for the win :p

how did you get win7 to install from usb?

I used this guide.
Or you can just format your USB drive as a boot drive and simply copy over the contents of the ISO/DVD.

Can't see wiper helping that much. Looks pretty bad, I'd be inclined to reinstall the drivers and if that fails flash it again.

Maybe not, but the new TRIM firmware won't be able to clean up previously deleted files anyway, so it's still probably advisable to run Wiper at least once after the update.

Also people should be running the built in Windows 7 AHCI driver for TRIM to work properly also.

I'm still undecided whether to enable it, I wipe the drive once a week and it makes little difference to performance, drive is 75% full. I'm going to wait and see if 1819 has fixed the corruption issues reported. Which tbh I never saw on 1711 anyway, but then I did have TRIM disabled from the go.

Im having trouble making my USB stick bootable, i downloaded the HP USB formatting app , tick quick format then what tick "create DOS start up disk" then your ment to browse to some dos system files , so where do i find/get these ?

What an utter pita that was getting from 1711 to 1819. It works though.

  • Boot from Windows 7 install IDE mode on another drive, UAC off.
  • Backup M225 install with Acronis Home 9, Bit for Bit, free space and signature selected.
  • Delete the M225 partition, run CTXXXM225_1571.exe
  • Select the right disk and run, wait an age and panic it's hung.
  • All ok back to 1571, reboot from USB disk with CT128M.exe and install 1819.
  • Restore Acronis image and check partition is 1024MB offset.

I'm in two minds whether to enable TRIM or not, I'll leave it for now.

fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify , 1 means TRIM is off.

fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 0 , would turn it back on.

Absolute PITA, especially with RAID...and why are they distributing the updates as ISOs - could have at least made them bootable and both work from DOS?

Here you go my good man.

thanks, still not managed to update the FW though, guess im just a noob at stuff like this

so i booted up from the USB stick and goto into dos, its just flashing on

C:\

i guess i have to enter my usb device name or soem thing then press enter ? i entered USB DISK as thats its name in windows but nothing happened, spose i'll have to wait till a idiots guide gets posted :D

No, just enter the name of the firmware, which is CT64M.exe, CT128M.exe or CT256M.exe dependent on which capacity drive you have, at the prompt and press <Enter> to run it. You should put the firmware on to the USB disk before rebooting into DOS.

You are flashing from 1571 btw? If you're on 1711 you have to downgrade to 1571 first.

whats the recomended strip size for 2 x 128gb m225's in raid 0? I just flashed to the new firmware and am looking to get the win 7 rc installed to mess about with for a week.

got a gigabyte ex58 and i7 920 if that makes any difference to teh choice of strip size.
