If we allow people to walk around with 100 piercings in their faces, 1000 tattoos covering their bodies, ridiculous hair styles (often covering a large portion of the face), ridiculous clothing like skin tight jeans, long canoe shoes, chains etc then what right do we have to ban any woman who wishes to wear a veil across her face?
If there is a security risk circumstance like at the airport or at the bank, that's fine, they can and should be asked to remove it upon entry. But to ban it in public is to trample on a person's rights. And once we start down that path it's only a matter of time before someone, somewhere in authority deems something you like to wear to be illegal for whatever reason they give.
I personally dont agree with the burka, it is nowhere in the religion but I stand for human rights and personal choice and if that is what they want to wear then so be it.
