If we allow people to walk around with 100 piercings in their faces, 1000 tattoos covering their bodies, ridiculous hair styles (often covering a large portion of the face), ridiculous clothing like skin tight jeans, long canoe shoes, chains etc then what right do we have to ban any woman who wishes to wear a veil across her face?

If there is a security risk circumstance like at the airport or at the bank, that's fine, they can and should be asked to remove it upon entry. But to ban it in public is to trample on a person's rights. And once we start down that path it's only a matter of time before someone, somewhere in authority deems something you like to wear to be illegal for whatever reason they give.

I personally dont agree with the burka, it is nowhere in the religion but I stand for human rights and personal choice and if that is what they want to wear then so be it.

he general thrust of my point stands.

Not at all.

Forced removal from said place would be the first thing. Then if they persist, fines, community service and the same as the other 100 petty crimes.

Although I don't think their is a need in airports for a ban. Don't they allready take them to a private room where a women officer can search and identify the.

It's not just about what they choose to wear. Even I realise that and i'm against banning them.

Nothing stopping these women from taking it off, this isn't the mountains of Afghanistan where you'll have an Avtomat Kalashnikova pointed at you for not wearing it.

If they wear it out of ignorance/not knowing any better, it's not my problem or concern. The anti-Muslim sentiment, which is essentially what distinguishes this issue from arguments about other face coverings, is clearly misplaced. I'm sure 99% of individuals realise they need to comply with identity verification (for example, passport checking).

I can see the arguments for banning them, in terms of the oppression of women, etc, but I also think people are free to wear what they want.

That shouldn't stand in the way of other things though e.g. security. Motorcyclists have to remove helmets when they go into a bank or whatever, after all.

ban it. they annoy me and look ridiculous

Back when I worked in a department store, whenever I had to serve fully covered up muslim's I couldn't take them seriously. And you can't hear a bloody word they're saying.

Good to see the french doing something about the burka.
Why do these women want to wear a sand mask in the UK?

Who cares? Why did the guy opposite me on the train this morning want to wear a baseball cap? It's not sunny, he's not playing baseball. Maybe he's trying to disguise his identity. We should ban baseball caps just to be sure...

I have no problem with them wearing them.

Assuming it's not in places where I would quite rightly be told to take off something covering my face, that's the only thing I really care about, I've been told to take off a sclaf covering my face in a train station by a security guard only to see a group of women walk by showing nothing but they're eyes, when I told him this he said he was not allowed to ask them to remove them.

If they want to wear them, they should be subject to the same requirements as the rest of us.

I am against forcing people to not be allowed to worship their religion so I don't think we should ban it.

I doubt must muslim women are honestly forced into this, it seems that most women already don't wear one, even in muslim communities.

I do think that for ID purposes we should make them take it off however, that is a security memasure we all must endure, don't want to have an unfair poilicy.
