*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

I have installed swype but cannot find how to enable it? You cannot long press the bottom left button like you could on the HTC Magic!

Posting from the bath ;p

got HTC desire from carphone warehouse today, brilliant phone, when play with demo HTC desire, i tested the incoming SMS vibrate and i was happy with it. (i'm deaf and only use phone for text message only). the vibration far powerful than my G1.

took it home put my T mobile sim card (contract) into desire, all working fine, BUT i cant get vibration working for SMS, if i press - button on side, it would change to vibration only and it'd vibrate no problem, when i receive SMS, it doesnt vibrate. i played with settings for 2 hours, i cant get it working at all.

help? i am getting really stressed lol

thanks

In messages press the menu key and go into settings. Scroll down and there's a vibration option under the notification settings.

What's the deal with top-up charging of batteries these days? I'm sure I read that you're better off letting them discharge fully before fully charging, not because of any memory effect like that suffered by NiMH cells but rather because it shortens the life of the battery.

Is this the case? If so then I'm almost wary of getting a cradle as it would promote continual top-up charging and possibly harm the battery. I'm sure we have some laptops at work which have been used on mains power 90% of the time and the batteries shafted as a result.

I only have the Magic but can't you add that contact to a group such as 'work email' and for your main contacts just in a group called 'contacts' or what ever.

When you search for a contact in exchange it finds them and you put a tick next to their name and click "Add". It then puts their name in the TO: box of the email. It adds them to your phone book though but doesn't prompt you for a group as far as I see. You only have the option to put a tick next to their name and click "Add". The addressbook thing is automatic from the looks of it. Happy to be proved wrong though but I've seen massive posts over at google and android forums about the whole searching in exchange thing. It's better than it was so they'll hopefully get there eventually!

As said, I don't have a Desire but I wouldn't expect them to change the contacts too much compared to the magic but give this a go:

Go to make a call, select contacts, go to the menu, Display Groups, contacts with phone numbers.

Try installing Handcent - it's a far better SMS app generally plus it might sort out the notification vibration issue :)

with handcent, i get 2 notifications one from the stock app and one from handcent. is there anyway to get rid of the stock app one?

just tried handcent, when pressed 'test notification', it doesnt vibrate :( something very wrong my desire i think

Is vibrate on in the main settings menu? Menu > Settings > Sound & Display > Phone Vibrate. If it is, try a factory reset which is, bizzarely, under the Privacy settings menu.

If neither work then I reckon some is broken I'm afraid :(

Yep seems a bit of a common problem on the desire.

I ended up downloading 'Sound Manager' from the marketplace which allowed me to turn it on even tho it claimed that it was on in the messaging app

Oh by the way, I know im a bit late for wesley, but for anyone else with the not vibrating when receiving a txt, I had that problem, and its easily fixed by going to the market, downloading sound manager, run it, then press menu, goto vibrate settings, and change 'notification settings' to 'vibrate whenever possible'.

Credit goes to the person who told me how to solve this last week!
