Oh pish posh. Semantics. It is democracy. Just not a very good one. They have a very large share of the popular vote, just didn't win many seats. Remember; this is not a democracy.
As an ex-ex-pat I hate to tell you that it's true the grass is always greener...I'm depressed over this result. How can it even be conceivable that Brown and the Labour party have the possibility of staying in power? Something is very wrong with this country and i am counting the days until i leave for New Zealand in 2 years i'm done with this crap hole.
This country is *****d.

Having not really cared about politics up until this election, can someone explain to me in simple terms what it means if it stays in this sort of ratio of seats? How does it work? (please dont link me to a bbc explanation, i want simple short answers)
It will be a very sad day for the UK if GB stays in downing street!!

No one will have outright claim to be PM, so Lib Dems will need to team up with the Torys and go begging to the Queen to form a government.
we didnt vote for him when he came in
Thats because you vote for the party.
poor gordon if he is forced out of downing street i fear even scotland wont want him
still 38 constituencies to submit results, so still some margin for things to change..
As Lord Hailsham once said; the FPTP system is an "elective dictatorship", in that a powerful government can be created with overwhelming Parliamentary power which can usually push through its required legislation - but with only a minority of the country supporting it.Voted Liberal Democrat although the poll has been closed, so not updated. A hugely disappointing result
I predict that the Liberal Democrats will "work" with the "English" Tories in the national interest; this will probably result in another General Election within 12 months and I suspect that the Liberal Democrats will do still worse there.
