But they can't keep us in dreamworld for another 5 years, the markets will crumble under the debt :)

I do however agree that the public are idiots and won't for one second consider who got us into this mess when voting in the future.

I don't think most of this country care what the debt is or what the world markets are doing, they just care about their public services and the 'here and now' of their lives.

I think most are perfectly happy to live in an artificial bubble for another ten years.

A summary:

1) I know nothing about Australian politics but will continue arguing because otherwise I would have to admit I was wrong. While I say I do that, in reality I hate doing it so won't. Instead I will nit pick and try and score points and make my self look worse with every word.

Fixed that for you. :)

A summary:

1) I say 'PR causes hung parliaments'
2) Australian bloke says 'no it doesn't, check out Australia'
3) I say 'that's anecdotal evidence'
4) You say .. 'er .. no it isn't Britboy you are stupid and WRONG it's fact .. Check out these facts
5) Lots of people say 'er .. your facts look riddled with hung parliaments!'
6) I spend 2 hours explaining what 'anecdotal evidence' actually is to you and what it means
7) You say 'Well .. er .. er .. PR DOES cause hung parliaments, obviously. Coalitions are cool by the way (!!)'
8) We all lol and move on. Thanks for playing.
You're in your own little world.

As you clearly don't want to read the links I've provided, please follow RDMs advice, and read the appropriate information that Evanglion kindly provided.

This could have all been avoided if you'd looked up 'anecdotal evidence' earlier!

As for coalition governments being strong, by very definition they're compromise. Difference sides in the coalition compromise as to what they get. That's not 'strong' by any definition of the word COMPARED TO MAJORITY GOVERNMENTS WHO CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT.

Don't trust me though, ask someone you do trust that is nearby ..

I accept your silent apology

Can we stop it now? If anyone's really interested in what happens in Oz they can, of course, go look it up on the 'net.

Keep on trollin'! In the interests of the thread, we can teach you about coalition governments in another thread. Good luck!

So? Coalition government has been proven to be successful in many parliaments, including some of the strongest economies in the world: the Nordic countries, Benelux, Austria, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Japan, Turkey, Israel, New Zealand, Kosovo, Pakistan, Kenya, and India.

I totally agree and I'm not arguing that. Point is PR produces more coalition governments. Fact. 64% in Europe since the war have being coalitions.

A bad thing? No. As you say, some of the best countries/governments have being coalitions. It's just we're not used to it over here.

To me I think it's a good idea. Less chance of bad/extreme laws getting passed as politicians have to actually discuss/agree on things.

Oh, sorry if it seemed a tad argumentative, riled up by other things.

We're not used to it, but there's only one way to get used too it :).

You haven't understood the conversation. You can't apply the thought to this one election alone. This will be a permanent change to how elections are done in this country.

Yes, it will, fantastic! Heaven forbid that the porportion of the vote is directly represented in the amount of seats that you recieve in Parliment. /sarcasm

MP's might have to actually make deals and work together to get stuff done, rather than having their super-blob party push things through.

I think people actually voted in this country expecting a coalition tbh. Most polls say people are in favour of a hung parliament.

Just a shame our politicians will probably make a complete mess of it on their first time trying it.

Also the stock market hates it which is not a good thing.

However, I think it might be what this country needs and I do think the AV+ system is the way forward in the future.
