If the veil is banned then wearing balaclava's, helmets etc in public places should also be illegal. It's an all or nothing situation.

You can not compare a crash helmet with a completely impracticable piece of religious clothing. Hypothetically if christians tried to dress like jesus all the time, i am sure there would be problems for christiasn as well. We couldn't have christians that were dressed like jesus, with long hair and ancient clothes walking into business meetings, representing multi-national corporations and expecting respect. Regardless of the religious significance there is just cultural norms that you have to adhere to, which are generally defined by the time and area.

“Ego is a structure that is erected by a neurotic individual who is a member of a neurotic culture against the facts of the matter. And culture, which we put on like an overcoat, is the collectivized consensus about what sort of neurotic behaviors are acceptable.” - Terrence McKenna

Why don't you just go back to the east if you want to be muslim ?

The veil should not be banned, people need to be free to practise their religious beliefs as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others. However as a society we need to make sure that women are not oppressed by the Insane religious masses, which is easier said than done I know.

Why don't you put your wife in some hot pants and take her for a holiday to some where hot, i bet her legs could do with some sun. It is utterly ridiculous to see muslim women covering their bodies when everyone else is in bikinis and swimming trunk. To be honest i think it is evil and if you are also too brainwashed to realize how bloody stupid you are then it is not surprising that you are muslim.

I'm not muslim, I just respect others rights to believe in any religion they choose and dress in any manner they see fit. You on the other had are either a windup merchant a racist or both, I'm not sure which but I do hope it's the first for your own sake.

Why? Fortunately this nation allows for freedom of worship. You're just as bad as Muslims who do oppress others.

Why does it offend you/scare you so much as to why people dress a certain way? If it was part of a Christian belief that required to wear robes like Jesus may have done, I would not be calling for a ban.

I've never seen anyone fail to understand Terence McKenna so drastically. The man had some great thoughts, and you've missed the point so completely that I'll now be surprised if you didn't do it on purpose.

It's not a 'Given practise' - it's a requirement by some shops that you show your face when making purchases. They're free to require this because you're on their property. Not all shops allow this. I keep my motorbike helmet on when paying for petrol, and have never had a problem.

Making a law to blanket ban it is a different thing to shopkeepers asking their customers to comply with their rules.

I just find that rude though...?

Then I think it should be law, the amount of people who walk into shops etc in the states for example with their faces covered up then commit a crime is amazingly high.

Boys and girls in the end it all boils down to freedom of choice to WEAR WHAT WE WANT.

Some of you just don't understand the fact that people choose to wear these things and are happy with them, now all of a sudden because of some idiots they should remove these clothes and wear something others find appropriate?

To hell with that and anybody who thinks they have a right to force what clothes other people can wear.

What we gonna have next, you can wear item x on day x?

Just think of how you'd feel if someone said they don't want you wearing this or that, how enraged would you feel?

I am not specifically against islam, i am against religion. I think it is brainwashing and is evil. But that is besides the point in this instance. I am also an anarchist so i would not be for a government ban. But i do support a cultural disapproval. Lets take another hypothetical example and go to the opposite extreme with it.

Lets say that there was a south american religion that required all women to wear only thin panties in public. Would you then understand the negativity towards it ? As of course we couldn't allow these almost naked south american girls walking around our shopping malls and teaching our children at school. Why ? Because it is not a part of our culture.

On the other end of it, we have muslims saying that we are suppressing their freedoms by moaning about the forced or voluntary cover up of females. But then if we go to the east and i take my girl friend in short dress down a main street. I will have police come up and start hitting her legs telling her to cover up, or worse.

So i think the negativity is rooted in trying to preserve whatever culture we can find that remains, without it getting infected by this evil religious sentiment that has been allowed to come over from the east and fester.

Most people put up with it on a daily basis, when they go to work.

Then you don't go there, do you? You know what their society accepts and you make your choices.

Just like Muslims, and many others, make their choice of Britain as a fairly open and accommodating society.
