Quicker to order it online through apple...thats what i was told by regent st when they put me on the priority list...saying that 3 weeks minimum for the online order.

I placed my order through apple about a week and half ago so hopefully get it next week or week after....

Yeah its probably quicker now to no go on the list, but since my reservation have been there for 2 weeks now it shouldn't be faster really to buy online.
I really cant imagine that it will take 3 more weeks for the store to fill the slots in front of me. Or will it?

They can only process 400 orders a day, due to the setup time. So it's possible.

mines still in arnhem.. doesnt look like tomorrow :(
although apple still sais tomorrow.

Hmm.... Thats not good.
But that is kinda why i asked Snax since he reserved in the same store, if he could say what date he made his reservation.
If its close to my date or the same even, ill at least have some clue about when ill get it :)

I guess saying "99% drop of its signal" is more dramatic then "20dB drop from a possible 62dB" as signals ranged from full at -51dB to -113dB where signal drops. When 0.0001% of maximum signal is enough to make calls and not disconnect, a 99% drop in signal don't seem so bad now does it? ;)

Anyway, Engadget just posted some real world report on iPhone 4 usage;

http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/13/yes-the-iphone-4-is-broken-no-the-iphone-4-is-not-broken/

Numbers are fun though, although often misleading without context. I'm sure that wasn't your intention. :)

I agree numbers can be misleading but in this case they're not. Signal strength is related to bandwidth, so yes, while you can still make calls with 0.0001% of the maximum signal strength, data transfer speeds will suffer. That's ok with calls as they use very little bandwidth but using the internet and streaming video/music doesn't. This is a problem for a device with a primary differentiating feature of good internet and media capability.

I've read those reports and the general consensus is that most people will be in a good signal area most of the time so the iPhone's shortcomings are less apparent. This is probably true for the general public as well. Doesn't mean it isn't going to be annoying when it eventually does happen to you.

It is a shame really as the iPhone 4 is the best most complete smartphone out in my opinion, or at least it would be if they fixed this flaw.

Just had a thought about the new facetime on the iphone4 or as its known video calling.

Now as far as im aware it works only on WIFI right??. So if thats the case could you make a call to say someone in the States who has the iphone4 with facetime and not be charged anything as its using WIFI???...or are the networks going to implement something that doesnt allow that or perhaps Apple??.

Like a webcam?

Yes i suppose so...only reason why im asking is because my sis in law in Canada is another apple iphone fan so will be getting hers soon...so was thinking that it would be pretty neat to call her via facetime and talk to her, my brother and the kids...at least you would be able to see their faces etc.

Question is will it work as a webcam though ie you wont get charged??...if so then thats a pretty nifty idea really...and something that perhaps other phone manufacturers or developers could look incorporating in future handsets.

If it only uses wifi then there is no reason you should be charged unless they implement a connecting charge which afaik there isn't atm. If anything that would be something the networks will need to think about but until iPhone 4 really takes off, allowing more people to do this type of calling it probably won't bother them.

Also as it's wifi only, usually only available at a fixed location (unless you count coaches or planes) then as someone else has already mentioned, it's just like you using it as a webcam over an internet connection.

Yeh i suppose you have a point there...oh well only another 9 days before my iphone4 is supposedly shipped out so once i have it activated ill give it a try with my sis in law as shes getting hers next week in Canada.

Yup, it's completely free. You could even be a standard voice call with your sister, hit the FaceTime button and it will drop the voice-call as soon as FaceTime is connected.
