*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

I finish on Friday :o

Bring it on is all I can see, I'm always game for a challenge! :D

Got myself some cheap second hand weights. It's those plastic ones with sand in and a 6ft barbbell only about 30kg without barbbell.

Since I can't do any powerlifting till my tendonitis is gone I'm doing some very fast Barbbell Complexes.

My favourite is the Cosgrovian Complex:
Deadlift x6
Romanian Deadlift x6
Bent over Row x6
Powerclean x6
Front Squat x6
Push Press x6
Squat x6
Good Morning x6

That's one set! :D

You do them all without stopping or letting go of the bar. You also do it as fast as possible with good form. Then no longer than a 30 second break and then the next set.

I do six sets each morning after waking.

Have to stay in shape somehow until I can smash more weights. :D

Depends on what you mean by it... the "traditional" sense of muscle memory is that you practice a routine so much it becomes instinct or second nature, biggest example being Martial Arts and their Katas

I have been doing these recently as well, as part of my 'cutting' regime, although I do them Squats first. I love the burn but feel sick after :)

Although my Romanian Deadlift just feels weird when done with this exercise, no idea why ;(

Weird in what way?

Although it's very good that someone else is also doing it, it's the best form of cardio I've ever done :)

Although once you get to 30kg or even 40kg it's just pure brutality. Sepcially when you do it timed and try and beat your time on each set.

I am using 30kg as a 'starter' my gym buddy thought we looked like poof loading the bar with that :) Then after 4 sets and him near death, he changed his mind.

RDL my form just goes not sure if its the fact I do them near the end or not might try your way round and see. My form just feels totally un-natural, yet if I do them as part of my normal routine they feel fine. Just my brain!! :)

Just wanted to thank everyone on here for tips/advice been hitting the gym hard recently and the results are starting to show. It's unbelievable how much I've changed in the last two months since finishing uni for the summer.

I'd like to ask if I'm overdoing it though. I tend to do a day of top body workout, then a day of light cardio/legs/abs then a heavy day of HIIT (14km/h and 18-22km/h bursts of 30 seconds for over 20 minutes) and rowing. Rest day and then the same again. I prefer this to targeting specific body parts on different days I found this too tiring and not for me. I also get through quite a few press ups each day.

My gym has some CoC!!

Trainer, close easily.
1, can close, but it's hard!
2, can almost close, about 5mm shy of closing.
3, about 1 inch needed more :p
4, can just about move it :o

However what we do have are some wrist plate rollers. Dam if it's not hard work, but it's great! :D

Here's an eg: http://relativestrengthadvantage.com/wrist-roller-forearm-strength/

At the moment I'm only doing about 7.5kg x 4 sets of 2m, each set is one raise and lower, pronated, and one raise and lower supinated grip. Not easy! Huge forearm pump!

I've definitely got to visit your gym soon, it sounds great with all the toys although I suspect going back to mine will be hard after that. The wrist roller's a good idea but that's a rubbish video to demonstrate it, especially as they never show the lowering phase despite putting on the screen how important it is.

True the vid was crap, I just wanted to show people who have never done wrist rollers. I've been missing them so much!

My aim is to get up to 20kg by the end of the year :p

Right guys I have a question.

As you may or may not be aware but i have been doing a bit of deadlifting of late. I feel that my form is good but sometimes I worry about things like hernias happening (my dad has one atm). Should i really be worried about hernias whilst deadlifting and if so what support/ precautions should i take to avoid them?
