how amazing is team fortress 2 !!

Reinstalled this a few days ago, saw the 8pm session yesterday but it was 7.30 when i noticed and i wanted to game then and there not wait 30min... by 8pm i was havin waaay too much fun to change servers :D

Used to play it a lot when it came out but then sort of went off it for one reason or another.

I think it was just more simple before the unlocks. Though I think I will start playing it again soon. :)

Ive always wanted to get into it, but it just always seemed a bit too much like hard work. Is there tutorial servers so you play without getting slagged off for being a noob and that teach you what to do with each class?
I actually find TF2 one of the more beginner friendly games. There is a training mode, but i say just muck in and see what happens. Sample each of the classes.

Perhaps we should organise an OcUK TF2 night on the server. I remember we did a few months ago, and we were playing each night for a week or so.

im up for that :) only got the game about 4 months ago and been playing it nonstop lol.

I've tried TF2 many times, when it came out in Orange pack, when it was ported to mac, and for its cleverness, and graphical appeal and humour, it is, by far, the most unrewarding multiplayer game I have ever played. Similar to just about every Valve multiplayer, the maps are claustrophobically small and overcrowded, it's is literally three corners, two corridors and couple main rooms where the battle actually take place on most of the maps and the gaming experience is alike running around your house with a baseball bat most of the time. The props are easily destroyed, making building of sentries almost pointless with 15 players running around spray shooting everything across the same tiny space. Finally the game itself, on most servers is just spam fest - you run through small corridors shooting everything that moves in face, for all intents and purposes it's Quake I with cartoon characters - no cleverness, no team work - not even a goal build up of simple games, like W:ET, which is now what - 8 years old?

I really want to like it, love the idea, classes and characters, but the gaming experience is just not doing it for me.

I agree in so much that i tend to favour the larger maps. If i find a match that fits to the above description then usually a quick change of tactic (ie change from a pyro to a heave to deal with all the scouts, or to a spy to deal with all the sentrys) usually turns things around.

Same here. Bought it a few days ago. Trying to get into it but it just seems like a hectic run around and just shoot anything that moves. Also seems like the weapons do no damage at all.

Still playing it though. Trying to decide if I like it or not.

Try and stick to one server. I've never enjoyed just joining a random 32 player servers where nobody talks and it's just a spam fest.

I mentioned earlier, but come and play here:

85.234.148.30:27050

It's always fun. There's some great players and some not so great players, but we don't care - if you have a mic you'll get along just fine with everyone. I definitely wouldn't still be playing TF2 if I didn't find that server and got to know everyone.

Also, if you find weapons don't do much damage, try scout or demoman. The scout can 2 shot 7/9 classes if you have good aim. And the demoman can lay stickies and kill everything.

GTFOgaming servers are really good too. Often play on these with Steam friends. As with many games like this, playing with people you know is much more fun than random strangers.

I really can't get my head around people saying it feels like the weapons do very little damage. Then again ive been playing it since day one of the beta and love it.

Same, don't know how they're playing but all the basic weapons do plenty of damage.

If you find it's a hectic spamfest, join a 24 man server instead of a 32 man server... the 8 less players makes a massive difference and the maps are designed for 24 man servers.

Oh, and a well defended sentrygun is difficult to kill if defended properly, and can be rebuilt fast enough by a decent team... Everything is balanced finely in TF2 once you get a decent level of skill

That plus avoiding insta/quick respawn servers. Those make the spam worse as well, especially on the last points of a map where the defending team are constantly just running out of spawn.
