Turn Baldurs Gate and its sequel into the single best CRPG experience you'll likely ever encounter

So how does the map system work? I remember that in BGI you could wander around from area to area trying to find the side quests:

but in BG II there were no random areas to explore:

Do any of these mods add locations to the BG II map?

Thanks a TON for this, Neil. I've had these games around for yonks but never given them a fair chance.

Installed it all last night and left the mod installations running while I'm at work. A packed evening for me, methinks! :D

I believe it combines baldurs gate 1 and 2 map into one map , however from what i can tell you can't visit BG1 locations it just shows them. I have visited the odd randomn area in BG2 , especially with the added quests from the mods.

Still worth it though

Aw, man.

Literally just been through HOURS of doing this. Installed all four, patched them up and ran through the steps as posted.

Got to the TobEx-Setup.exe stage, and the options didn't match up...it asked what I wanted to do with mods already installed.

If I chose to (S)kip them, it pretty much skipped everything.

If I chose to (R)einstall them, it seemed to run through REMOVING all of the stuff that BiG World had already done, THEN gave me the (C)ompatibility option and so forth.

Queue close to another 2 hours and it's finished....except if I launch ToBLoader or Baldur.exe, I get a "...has stopped working" error.

Thanks for the guide Neil! Followed it exactly (I think) and it seems to be pretty much working fine.

Anyone know if its possible to use the no cd crack once the Big World stuff is installed? Want this on my netbook but obviously no DVD drive sadly and I've tried but couldn't get it to work, just wondering if anyone else had done anything similar?

I am in same situation, after following Neil's full guide I ran the nocd patcher. It 'works' but I am getting a crash pretty soon after the beginning. When I go to the cellar with the first combat tutorial it is crashing. This has only happened a couple of times and I haven't really worked out what the issue is. I will be trying it with the original .exe files and a USB DVD drive though to rule out the crack.

Got it working now. :D

A few little differences from Neil's guide: I chose to update BiG World when I ran it, then let it run through the "Recommended" installation.

At the end, I didn't run Setup-ToBEx. Instead, just installed the Widescreen mod, then launched the TobEx Launcher. All works fine from there!

The Tobex Launcher works on it's own if you installed the recommended however if you followed my instructions it would need to be installed manually. Whatever way you do it my guide has less problems later on in the game.

But if you got working , well done :D

Is it possible to install BG II on a netbook without a disk drive? I know you can get BGI from gog.com but how would I go about installing BGII + ToB. Even if I did get an external disk drive I wouldnt want to carry it with me the whole time just to play BG.

Thanks for the help...

Ah, that makes sense. :)

Played up to the Friendly Arms Inn just now. Haven't played that far before (I seriously never even game them a chance when I picked them up!). What a punishing game, seriously! Party wipes are so easy!

I do remember a site that showed how to install a portable copy onto a USB pendrive.
