how amazing is team fortress 2 !!

I used to love TF2 when it was first released, but they have raped it...

It seems like an MMO now, I started it up yesterday for the first time in months and was greeted by some sort of shop window trying to sell me game items lol.

I just disconnected, sadly the death of one of the best FPS in history.

I'm not understanding this at all.

If you don't like the idea of buying the items then don't. All the items in the shop are generally discoverable in game.

They're just their for fun as far as I'm concerned.

You can even go on classic servers with non of the new items available if that's what you're after.

Well maybe, I was just horrified of the rapage.

Why did they have to mess with a winning formula?

I am the only one who thinks it's beren ruined?

They got TF2 so right from the start and now it is so wrong :(

I'll give it another go sometime but just have to try and see past the MMO stuff.

So it's what, COD with worse graphics and less realism?

A) CoD is the most unrealistic shooter I have ever played.

B) TF2 graphics are very good, the art direction is very different from cool of duty.

C) TF2 doesn't have deathmatch game mode.

D) TF2 is about capturing points, and brief cases, to win you have to work as a team and use all the characters on the team effectively. If you don't your team loses.

give me a buzz on steam friends when i'm on next. I also haven't played L4D2 in ages, played with a couple of mates over the weekend on the new campaign, which was nice.

It hasn't been ruined. They've added optional weapons, that's it. 90% of the weapons aren't even useful. You can play with the stock release weapons and do perfectly fine.

The hats and such are just for fun. Just extra customizable things that make the game more interesting.

I just think it adds a new element of fun.

I'm quite happy for them to make an extra bit of cash for the amount of free content they've provided for the game over the years. If someone wants to pay £7 for a virtual hat then leave them too it!

If I ever get bored of the new stuff, I just filter for 'Classic' and get loads of servers to play on with no unlocks.

My only gripe is trade spam at the moment but that seems to be dying down. Reminds me of the trade channel in WOW!

aahhh I didn't know this filter existed. Maybe Tf2 will be playable again.

The hats don't bother me, it's all this crafting and poo I don't understand... never played an MMO so it just seems like they don't give a poo about players like me and have filled everything with spam.

Tf2 used to be brilliant, now I'm not sure what to make of it.

It's very simple. You can craft some weapons you don't use together to get either a weapon you want to use or a hat. If you haven't played much recently, you're probably going to get a lot of weapon drops when you start to play again. You don't even need to go on classic servers, just play normally. Try the servers I posted earlier, they're all great. You don't need the new weapons, some are quite fun to use but you're probably better off using the normal ones, with a few exceptions. You can play the game perfectly well without even touching the crafting system, it's an optional extra for people who want hats or a specific weapon.

Perhaps not such a bad way of looking at it as I first thought when I read that post!

Yes it is less 'realistic' than COD. But is that a bad thing? I like rocket jumping, heavy weapons guys who can take loads of damage, setting people on fire, turning invisible as a spy etc etc

As for the graphics, I would argue that is subjective. I like the graphics in TF2. I also like them in MW2 - but I wouldnt say the comic style of TF2 puts me off playing.

I also think that perhaps you would figure out what it is like quicker by playing the game. Lots of people on here would suggest it is worth putting in the few hours it might take to learn the game mechanics to reap the benefit of hours of fun!

You've never played Quake or UT then. And don't troll by saying CoD is less realistic than them ;)

CoD isn't realistic, neither is quake, Unreal, Counter-strike. The term realistic should only be used for America's Army, Operation Flashpoint, Armed Assault and Arma2. Even in these games it's somewhat questionable, but compared to saying CoD is realistic lol

I hate CODs graphics. Everything blends into the surrounds too well. I absolutely hate being picked off across the map by some guy lying in some bushes that is physically impossible for me to see. I literally can't tell the difference the terrain and players in "realistic" games like COD, which is why I don't play them.

(I define realistic as war games where weapons take 1 shot to kill you)

True. But it's just a way to easily describe games that I can't physically play well lol. Games that try to make the terrain look as realistic as possible. I'm not talking about the gameplay, I just mean the graphics.

I really don't get the neophobes banging on about how the game is ruined. You can still play the game exactly as you would before, if you don't like the unlocks, ignore them. It doesn't make everyone else more powerful, it just makes them play differently. They aren't upgrades, they're side-grades.

Even worse are those that say hats ruined the game, totally irrational. The only irritating thing about them is the chat trading, but it's not like the TF2 chat was ever a mecca of rational and interesting chatter was it.

Also, CoD is a completely unrealistic shooter dressed up in realistic clad, TF2 is bat **** insane and doesn't mind telling you. Just have some fun with it.

Can you read? I said CoD/CSS are 'semi-realistic'. They don't have rail guns, zero mavity, dodge jumping, lightning guns etc. They aren't set in space or in an unreal dimension. They are set in realistic locations using real world weapons etc. I didn't say 'THEY ARE 100% REALISTIC' because obviously they aren't. I assumed (wrongly) it would be blindingly obvious what I meant.
