*** The Official ATI Radeon HD 6970 & 6950 Reviews, Discussion and Overclocking Thread ***

I do find the comments on HardOCP's review in this thread funny.... It's almost as if people don't understand how they review....

2560x1600 performance bodes well for Eyefinity. CF scaling is also hugely impressive (anandtech) again boding well for Eyefinity.

As I said earlier only benching at 2560x1600 is a big mistake, a tiny percentage of people will run that res.

And bear in mind this is a 6950 review as well, not just 6970.

Reviewing a 6950 only at 2560x1600 res is at best incompetent, at worst it smacks of the single setting where this card could shine due to its 2GB ram, I expect AMD are very happy with HardOCP say no more.

Good point, I had missed that with a quick read of their conclusion. I would say most buyers will be using 1900x1200 max. Still they are good performers at their price point, more so the 6950 :) I can see a bit of a price war though if they affect NV sales....

Not good, I was looking forward to replacing my 12 month old 5770 Crossfire setup for the 6970 but it is already on par with the 5870.

But the performance difference be impossible to spot IMO! :(

So what on earth happened with these??

Certain individuals were claming concrete evidence they were 20-30% faster than a 580.

They clearly arent. I'm a bit disapointed really, as I hoped it would push the 580 price down so I could raise the hope of buying a second for SLI!

Nothing impressive then. Was hoping there would be a clear winner with AA and Tesselation at 1680 and 1920 but it seems the 570 is better for the most part (in the games i play) and at the same price or less it's a no brainer with the better driver support (imo). Looks like it's a 570 xmas for me :D

The 6950 could have been a very good card, if it can deliver GTX570 performance at current price point...shame it couldn't...not even close...

I seriously think AMD should slash the price of 6970 down to £260-£270, and 6950 down to £200-£210...

oh dear, pretty poor show by amd, looks like il be holding onto my money, they have had a long time to get these ready, very poor

I was being nice for not saying flat out £200 for 6950, £240-£250 for 6970 should be what they are priced at...

I still believe the prices are fair and have such bought a 6950 (was planning on a 6970 when it was believed to be £360!). I may add another for Crossfire if required as the scaling is quite simply brilliant. But anyway I am upgrading from a Nvidia 7800GT so what do I know?

Bit disappointing really. Ordinarily they would offer good value, but the 570 offers just as much and more at a lower price. Also the argument about the efficient power consumption of AMD cards vs Nvidia in the case of the 570 is gone as well, with very little between the two.

Yea, so genuine question here.. What happened guys? People were stating huge and impressive things for these cards and they have turned out to be a bit of a damp squib. Were people lying? Making things up?

What went wrong?
