*** The Official ATI Radeon HD 6970 & 6950 Reviews, Discussion and Overclocking Thread ***

No, I have a 4870 1Gb card at the moment. I was hoping to sell that for £80. (OCUK sell the lesser 4850 512Mb for £80, so I figure I would easily get this price for a quicker card).

I think you're being a little optimistic there...

£50 is perhaps more realistic.

Then, buy a new 6970 2Gb. £280 - £80 = £200.

:)

I don't think you'd get £80 for a second-hand 4870; brand new 5850's are on sale for £125.

If You get a chance could You try half an hours game play and see if You have any stutter/slowdowns.... cheers

Ok, just played for an hour or so at 1920x1200, all settings on enthusiast and 8xAA; FPS (measured by Fraps) was generally around the 60-75 mark, lowest was around 50-55. Was nice n smooth and no stuttering (that I noticed anyway) :)

I have some info for those running an i5 rig where your pcie slot is limitied to 8x from 16x if you have a sata3 or usb3 device.

Running on the rig from my sig with the following overclock (max available on CCC):
840mhz core
1325mhz ram

On Unigine Heaven 2.1 I got:
48.0 fps with 16x pcie
47.0 fps with 8x pcie

This is a ~2% speed decrease.
Yet manufacturers are on about 32x pcie? Pretty useless right now tbh!

Well until I find a real solution or until the next Catalyst fix the problem for me I have found a workaround. I have created a profile and edited it manually to have it reflect the proper 2D frequencies. However even after modifying the voltage setting in the profile file it doesn't seem to have any effect as it remains at 1.0V instead of 0.9V.
I now have to switch between this 2D profile and the normal one depending on what I do but I guess it's better than nothing. At least temperature has decreased and so has the fan noise. Still, I can't help to be disappointed and having regrets for not taking the GTX 570 :(

Very optimistic I sold my bi#ch-backup card 4870 512mb gs gainward for £44 a week ago. 45-50 is realistic.

Is it worth it ? Yes.

Or u can do this and have a faster card
570@ 250-50=200

Same thing.

Very Nice, don't suppose many have experienced Crysis at that resolution and frame rates :)
Seems crossfire has come along way from the setups I ran a Year or so back.

Enjoy Your new cards :)

Just got my 6970, took out the old 4870, for some reason I have terrible FPS, like 10-20 at the same settings that my 4870 was goo with. Ive just installed the latest drivers (10.12) with the CCC hotfix, nothing makes a difference :(

I also uninstalled the previous drivers before installing - anyone got any ideas?

:( oh no this not good, What is the best thing to do ? i am waiting for my 6970 to come and i have a xfire 4870 set up can i remove those cards then put in the new 6970 and all is good ??
Or should i remove all the drivers in safe mode and driver cleaner power down then remove my old cards and replace them with the new 6970 ?

Hope this helps you to stealthgeek.

Have you tried the official 10.12s alone? not the hotfix, using them myself, played around 5 games so far and all been smooth without problems.

I had a 5850 and before installing the 6970 and I removed the drivers, rebooted in safe mode and cleaned everything using driver sweeper+manual clean up of the registry.

Regarding your issue Stealthgeek have you tried any other 3D apps aprt from games? like 3Dmark and other benchmarks? would confirm if it is definitely a "system issue" or just a drivers bug/conflict affecting performances in game.
Could also be a power limitation, maybe the card is not getting enough juice?

Oh my dear, just trying to make my 6970 to work, already tried few different drivers and still no luck, was lucky with 12 hotfix, but it showed that my drivers are 10.11, AMD as usual :) Happy days. will try drivers included with the card.

I noticed one issue with this card during playing WoW for those of you who are there's an option called "Enable Surface Format Optimization" which i've now turned off which made odd gfx rendering scenery/shapes that flashed next to my char finally vanish and seemed to of been caused by this as my 5870 didn't have any issues with same driver.(well not had nothing yet so seems it was this otherwise probably is driver since all other games have not had any issues)

I've just published our Overclocked look at Sapphire's 6970 and 6950 versus overclocked 570 and 5870 OC.

This is the follow up to our launch article which isn't listed on the opening post here: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/revie...n-6950-graphics-card-review-introduction.html

Thanks a lot.

Good review, nice to see the most important "min fps" in the tables ;)
Power and temp's would be a nice addition and I would question them all getting 9/10 for design when ATI has blocked 40% of the cooler exhaust with a DVI connector, making them hotter and noisier than they needed to be !

ATI cocked up the Cooler exhaust port on the 58** series and have done the same with the 69** !! For the sake of fitting 1 extra dvi connector most will not use ...
I would think the cards could be 20% cooler and quieter If they did it properly and used a breakout box for the multi monitor support

^^Truth.
