thinkin about it i might go for a double edged razor and see how that goes and if i really want the cut throat style then i may go for that at a later date.
i just feel it would be too a big jump from the mainstream gillette razor blades and might cause like you said lots of cuts :o
 
I went from Gillette to DE razor and got a shavette free, after about 5-6 shaves with the DE I started to do the odd bit with the shavette and now alternate between the 2, DE when in a rush/tired/lazy and shavette when brave :)
 
can i ask where on the high street is a good place to pickup any cream/soap or razors or blades?
as i would like to ask my family for some bits and pieces but i haven't ever came across this before even in boots/house of fraser or debenhams etc.

You'll want a brush, blades & some cream/soap, maybe have a look at starter packs - that's how I got started, quite a few sites do them, check out http://www.shaving-shack.com/, I got my stuff from there - if you spend over £10 you get some freebies which will cover your blades & if you sign upto there newsletter you get 10% off your order which will cover p&p for you.

My starter pack from Traditional Shaving turned up yesterday so I figured I'd give it a go when I got home.

Had my first proper shave last night and have realised that I need to change how I shave compared to a Gillette. Did feel easier to shave though which is nice and my dog loves the taste of the shaving cream I got :/
 
My merkur 34c , taylor of old bond street and Derby blades turned up a week or so ago. Have shaved twice since getting the razor. Seems to shave really well, I've never used anything but an electric shaver so I don't really have anything to compare it too :\

I had a shave this morning and didn't cut myself, I used the blade that comes with it. I've never watched any kind of instructional videos! Are there any good ones out there?

Also, what's the point with the double edged blades? Just so they last longer?
 
Do as many or as few passes as you feel you need too, if I wanted to get really smooth I'd need to do 3 or more as my stubble grows in multiple directions - but it leaves my face feeling raw, so I try to be sensible & just stick to 1.

What's the crack with these fancy razors anywho? I've started using the new Wilkinson Sword Hydro and my skin is quite enjoying it: should one only consider switching to one of these manly shaving alternatives if you have trouble with other razors?
 
Had a shave the other day with my new razor and ended up with a hell of a rash and little spots of blood all over my neck and top lip :(

What the hell am I doing wrong?
