Hm,

I use the Fusion that vibrates :P

But i do get a sore neck the next day and a rash when it grows back.

Would i be better off with one of the razors you chaps in here are talking about?

Im not sure about a single blade.... would it not cut me to bits each time i use it?

I can get a very close shave with my razor with the way i use it but i dont like the effect the next day :(

A DE razor shouldn't cut you anymore than what you already use, just take a bit more time with it when you 1st use it till you get the hang of things.

I think your soreness/rash might be down to the multiple blades on the Fusion type razors as (how I understand they work) they lift & cut the hair which can give you grief as it grows back.

I used to hate shaving, it was almost a chore, but I actually look forward to it these days since switching over.

Been using my Merkur Slant for well over 5 months now. Damn fine bit of kit, but still a nightmare to do the middle bit right under the nostrils. I'm rather skilled with the slant now but I really want something more aggressive as I still do 3 passes on my beard. With my 34C it was about 5 passes before I had smooth skin.

I'm still going through the sampler pack that I bought off Connaught ages ago! I've used up my Feathers, binned the Merkur blades as they're junk, and have Derby Extras and my favourite Iridiums still remaining.

More than a slant, try an open comb gem micromatic, it's the most aggressive out there.

I have one and love it.

Bought a rotary shaver from a highstreet store in their sales.

Also bought a rather nice Art Deco DE razor from a popular auction website.

I've been using the rotary on weekdays and DE once on weekends.
I have cut myself a few times but it's getting better - I'm not sure my skin's the right kind for DE shaving.

I dont think skin type has much to do with it. Nine times out of ten shaving problems come down to technique rather than anything else. You ever watched the mantic vids on youtube?

I find that the L'Oréal men expert morning "revitalization" cream is the dogs for stopping my skin redden after a full shave, even though it's not really designed for it at all! Saying that, not really tried that many after shave balms....hate having to close shave but my beard trimmer is broken so hoping for a new one at Xmas :D

Likely just needs practice it can take a long time to get used to it. Plus with the long breaks between you might be forgetting what worked or didn't between? I turned into a night shaver after going DE, I'm just too sleepy in the morning to do a good job. Plus I don't need to get up extra early for it either.

Have a search on youtube for how to wet shave, I wouldn't suggest you follow how someone else shaves word for word as your face will be different to everyone else, but you can get some good help & pointers out of watching vids.

I find a straight blade 'Shavette' with feather blades gives the best shave with a single pass, just be carefull otherwise you may take off skin with it :)

Bought a starter set and some other bits from Traditional Shaving yesterday, but have had no email to say it's been shipped and the email I sent them hasn't been replied to.

Anyone know what the normal delivery time is like and if the actually answer emails?

they are very good wossi. i've ordered loads of stuff from them and haven't had a problem. very quick delivery too. i mainly use them because there is a good voucher code for 10% off. use the code bandb at the checkout.

has anyone got any experience with a cut-throat razor? are they any better than double edged?
i just like the idea of shaving with a cut-throat as im not too bothered about the time it takes to shave as i enjoy it.

Recently bought myself a Merkur 38C Barber Pole with a variety of 50 blades, some Proraso (think it was called) and a badger hair brush.

Unfortunately just as it arrived I had decided to grow a beard, so not really wielded it in anger yet :)

I have used a shavette which is kind of like a disposable cut throat http://www.shaving-shack.com/product.php?productid=2910&cat=187&page=1, you need a steady hand.

Also I suggest a block of Alum http://www.shaving-shack.com/alum-block.html as you will cut yourself and it will bleed without this :D
