Manchester United vs Liverpool 09/01/11 and other 3rd round FA Cup matches *SPOILERS*

why is everyone going head over heals about Chelsea's result against Championship strugglers?

It MIGHT indicate a turn around..... it just as easily might not also

This, like us scoring 5 past Scunny yesterday, means nothing against a poor Championship side!

You speak like Liverpool have never benefited from bad decisions or by players going down to easily. Gerrard on several occasions has won you some suspect decisions by going down too easily.

Indeed just see how many goals Liverpool have had from Gerrards dives, and how many points they have had as a result. Diving does pay off.

Anyway **** poor match. Debatable penalty, that any Liverpool fan would have took or been annoyed they did not get if the tables were turned. Still had another 88 minutes to equalise or win. Deserved red card as well

Worthy of quoting again! ;)

And....Liverpool fans were a DISGRACE today, throwing money down onto United fans including the 2 tier disabled stand! Two coins landed right near us, I counted in the 30 seconds around 25 coins but I gave watching them throwing stuff down, ripped apart some seats as well.

Total ****! :@

From Liverpool forward Ryan Babel on Twitter: "And they call him one of the best referees. That's a joke smh [shaking my head]."

a few minutes before hand:

From Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand on Twitter: "To be in the fourth round is what we wanted and what we got, such a great feeling to win against one of our fiercest rivals. Definite penalty."

:D
Rio's right.

Most United fans would probably admit if Berbatov went through it again on the training ground he could probably manage to stay on his feet, but that doesn't change the fact that he was fouled and to the letter of the law, it is a definite penalty. Whether or not other similar instances are given in other games is a separate matter.

I could understand some of the venting here if Berbatov stuck out his leg and raked it off Agger while falling over (and where have we seen that before?), but clearly there was contact on the player with none on the ball. Even if Berbatov did make the decision to fall in his head, why should he have to put up with being fouled in the box? The crime starts with Agger, no-one else.

All responses along the lines of 'Oh it's always United getting these decisions, argy-bargy is part of the game, etc...' are to put on the back of a postcard and posted to Stevie 'He tripped me, honest guv' Gerrard.

The variance in coverage is amazing sometimes.

ITV harped on and on about the penalty call and how Berbatov 'should' have stayed on his feet for the majority of their coverage whilst barely mentioning Agger actually contacting and thus fouling him. They also tried to edge some of the blame off Gerrard by showing Rafael's non-incident alongside his two-footed lunge repeatedly and going as far as to say that was what motivated him to make the challenge.

Meanwhile the BBC's report on the match doesn't mention any contraversy surrounding the penalty, says the ref 'thought long and hard' before making the call, and has a 404 quote stating that Berbatov 'didn't dive' and that 'there was contact'.

:p

Why cant there be a liverpool match where the fans just keep that victim mentality under wraps?
Better still, why are there no Liverpool fans who know the rules of football, or can see the sometimes laughable bias they get when they play at home?

One rule for them when Gerrard throws himself on the floor 6 feet from the nearest opposition player and one rule for us when at least our player whats till some sort of challenge before diving.
Blinkered load of living in the 80's shell suit wearing hypocrites ;)

There are. Plenty of them. I think you will find that every team in the league, Utd included has fans who dont know the rules of football and/or ignore laughable bias.

I'd happily live in the 80s again, best decade in my life imo. (not wearing a shell suit though :) )

Only skimmed through the thread but whoever it was who posted the comment about Munich should be permabanned. Nothing against the Don who made the decision but there's no place on here or anywhere for those sort of comments.

As for the game, the penalty was a joke but Gerrard deserved his red. I've got nothing against players making those sort of tackles if they're trying to win the ball, and I'm sure he did, but the game's gone soft and the rules state you can't jump in two footed anymore :(

Never really thought we had a chance to win today but I'm very pleased with the defensive side of the performance (all 4 defenders had great games) and I thought we looked to play it on the floor far more than we ever did under Roy. Certainly more confident about the remainder of the season than I ever was with Clown Shoes in charge of us :)
