Be happy, a big clear out of wages would suggest the intention to buy other people, and clearing out the dead wood to bring in effective players is not a bad thing.
If only Wenger would do the same, again I don't watch every game but, Everton have become fairly used to a little Euro football and trying to get in the top 8, for me Yakuba, Saha(purely on injury proneness making him utterly unreliable), Vaughan, Anichebe, Pienaar aren't remotely good enough yet several of those are on big wages(for Everton) and you'd lose little but getting their wages off the books and trying new cheaper players. Some will suck, thats life, some might be very very good.
Personally I though Everton were stagnating and Moyes was no where near aggressive enough in clearing out those not good enough and bringing in fresh blood. Everton are giving the signal thats changing.
Of course, they could be losing money and not intending to buy anyone, in which case, thats not good at all.
Just had a quick check and a news story on it does say he's going to sign a replacement striker.
Yeah I don't mind at all about getting rid of the dead wood. I've been saying a freshing up and a good shacking has been needed, but Moyes had the guts to do it until now. Playing what are obviously his favourites etc which has been seriously frustrating. Like with Rodwell, next future England star, Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal interested in buying for £15m etc etc but instead he isn't getting the game time to develop because Moyes sticks to his favourites of Osman, or Arteta, who has not been in form at all this season really.
We don't have money that's the problem, a replacement striker but on loan and that's it. I've been saying for 2 years now we need a striker who is going to bang in 20 goals for us. As shown we can get goals from other areas, Cahill the prime example, but we don't have anyone else. Like I said it's great to see people being shipped out, but then when we don't have anyone lined up to take their place, Moyes not giving youngsters a chance and simply not having any money to buy anyone else it makes you wonder what is going on at the club. Sell to buy is what it's been for years, and that's what it is now. As soon as Pienaar turned down the contract, like 5 months a go or what ever and they said they wouldn't improve on it, they knew he would be going in Jan or the summer, preferably Jan to get some money in. But we still don't have anyone new in, no replacement for him. Months to scout players, talk to agents, source monies especially with the way this season has gone but nothing. I've got no idea who we'll get in and I don't want to think about it to be honest, 3 positions we've got to fill ideally with <£5m.
We need a right winger, a striker and now a left winger since Moyes isn't giving Bilyaletdinov any game time (hopefully that changes now Pienaar is out), and cash from Pienaar, Yak and looks like Vaughan loan isn't going to be enough to get quality players in to fill those positions. And well come the summer, just like the summer gone and the summer before and before that the board (mainly Bill Kenwright) can not stump up the cash to get players in. I dare not think about what the summer will be like. Hopefully though Moyes will give those we got in during the summer a real chance now. Gueye, Silva and Baxter for example.
We took out a £14m loan in August to pay for new player contracts, pay other debts and interests based on future TV money. TV money we got this year was used to pay off another £14m loan from a couple of years a go!
Same company as well, Spurs sponsor, Investec. I think we might have actually taken out a loan to get Felliaini but I'm not 100% sure about that.
It's not like we are in the ****, just that we ain't going any where. Pretty sure we're losing money as well, this the need for the loans. It's a balancing act it seems and until some one invests, or buys out Bill Kenwright we are not going to progress sadly and that isn't going to happen any time soon.
