I know he hasn't exactly been around this season... but still, what the **** is going on?!?!

Pretty annoying that Bent will be able to play against us at the weekend. Wasn't expecting an easy game as they won't want drubbing twice this season but a new big signing may lift their spirits enough to start a turn around. Definitely would prefer playing them if they'd signed him later!

Wont be long until he gets De Jong'd ;)
and its not us who should be scared its their defence when they have Tevez and Dzeko baring down on them

After tonights performance we desperatly need a new defender, Lescott was playing really well when Toure was out but for some reason looks really rusty?....Would like us to move for someone like Kompany who can play the ball as well as defend, Vermelaen would be perfect but hes injured and wouldn't leave Arsenal.

Crouch had one chance against United so you're saying Bent converted every chance in his entire time at Spurs?

Well official stats say he had 3 shots off target against Utd, so thats a bit worse than one chance. But I did mean to say, chances as in chances to score as opposed to shots. When he gets infront of a defender but fails to actually jump so doesn't actually make the header, or puts his foot out and misses the ball, etc, etc. Those add up on top of shots he actually makes but are just completely rubbish.

Anyway, asides from Cahill theres very few players I would say are great headers. Thats not at you, but someone further up using the list of, he has no heart, and isn't a great header as an excuse.

No heart is laughable, barely played in his first year, in a bad mindset, unhappy wanting out and Redknapp highlighting his every mistake to the press. It was clear as day he wasn't wanted even when injuries forced his inclusion.... how many players show a lot of heart in that situation.

Be happy, a big clear out of wages would suggest the intention to buy other people, and clearing out the dead wood to bring in effective players is not a bad thing.

If only Wenger would do the same, again I don't watch every game but, Everton have become fairly used to a little Euro football and trying to get in the top 8, for me Yakuba, Saha(purely on injury proneness making him utterly unreliable), Vaughan, Anichebe, Pienaar aren't remotely good enough yet several of those are on big wages(for Everton) and you'd lose little but getting their wages off the books and trying new cheaper players. Some will suck, thats life, some might be very very good.

Personally I though Everton were stagnating and Moyes was no where near aggressive enough in clearing out those not good enough and bringing in fresh blood. Everton are giving the signal thats changing.

Of course, they could be losing money and not intending to buy anyone, in which case, thats not good at all.

Just had a quick check and a news story on it does say he's going to sign a replacement striker.

Am I the only person who actually rated Babel (when he could be bothered, obviously). I'm a tad surprised Liverpool sold him on in the end.

On a side note, it actually looks like Man U are stuck with the same midfield until at least the Summer, oh the horror.

Yeah I don't mind at all about getting rid of the dead wood. I've been saying a freshing up and a good shacking has been needed, but Moyes had the guts to do it until now. Playing what are obviously his favourites etc which has been seriously frustrating. Like with Rodwell, next future England star, Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal interested in buying for £15m etc etc but instead he isn't getting the game time to develop because Moyes sticks to his favourites of Osman, or Arteta, who has not been in form at all this season really.

We don't have money that's the problem, a replacement striker but on loan and that's it. I've been saying for 2 years now we need a striker who is going to bang in 20 goals for us. As shown we can get goals from other areas, Cahill the prime example, but we don't have anyone else. Like I said it's great to see people being shipped out, but then when we don't have anyone lined up to take their place, Moyes not giving youngsters a chance and simply not having any money to buy anyone else it makes you wonder what is going on at the club. Sell to buy is what it's been for years, and that's what it is now. As soon as Pienaar turned down the contract, like 5 months a go or what ever and they said they wouldn't improve on it, they knew he would be going in Jan or the summer, preferably Jan to get some money in. But we still don't have anyone new in, no replacement for him. Months to scout players, talk to agents, source monies especially with the way this season has gone but nothing. I've got no idea who we'll get in and I don't want to think about it to be honest, 3 positions we've got to fill ideally with <£5m.

We need a right winger, a striker and now a left winger since Moyes isn't giving Bilyaletdinov any game time (hopefully that changes now Pienaar is out), and cash from Pienaar, Yak and looks like Vaughan loan isn't going to be enough to get quality players in to fill those positions. And well come the summer, just like the summer gone and the summer before and before that the board (mainly Bill Kenwright) can not stump up the cash to get players in. I dare not think about what the summer will be like. Hopefully though Moyes will give those we got in during the summer a real chance now. Gueye, Silva and Baxter for example.

We took out a £14m loan in August to pay for new player contracts, pay other debts and interests based on future TV money. TV money we got this year was used to pay off another £14m loan from a couple of years a go!

Same company as well, Spurs sponsor, Investec. I think we might have actually taken out a loan to get Felliaini but I'm not 100% sure about that.

It's not like we are in the ****, just that we ain't going any where. Pretty sure we're losing money as well, this the need for the loans. It's a balancing act it seems and until some one invests, or buys out Bill Kenwright we are not going to progress sadly and that isn't going to happen any time soon.

I think if he came to Arsenal he would've ended up a much better player.

Agree. Very talented prospect before we got a hold of him and subsequently we hit his "off" switch ever since he touched down. Just completely stopped in terms of progression, I think he would and still can become a fantastic player. He has all the attributes to succeed in the Premiership but his lack of desire sometimes is frightening - and we've taken a hit on his fee.

I'd say Babel never really looked that good, his only real star turn out was a under 21's tourney, people always take them so seriously but the quality is dreadful, normal internationals are a very bad barometer for checking out players but under 21's is a joke. I've honestly never seen him be brilliant except in that tourney.

He shows a few signs but, the best player in the world who couldn't give a crap won't amount to anything.

I'd say 7mil is a truly epic fee for Liverpool, a guy with what you assume can't be too long left on his contract(or did he sign another one?) who has barely played, looked disinterested, shown nothing but attitude problems, has a go at his managers, has a huge ego and hasn't shown anything on the pitch to back it up, you paid what 12mil or so. When a player fails that spectacularly and shows massive attitude problems I would have said 3-4million would be a risk for another club taking him on.

Azza, on Everton yup, I think what Everton might have to do is, get lucky more than anything else. Clubs do it though, pick up a Dzeko from some non league team for 25k, then sell him on for 27mil.

I think what clubs with very little money need to do is, frankly if you can move 100k a month off your wages, a year later you're 5mil better off. Buy a half dozen of the best prospects or vastly under rated players you can, they'll be on cheap wages, and you might find a gem you want to keep, or someone worth more who you can sell on to a championship/lower prem club for a little profit.

I've completely forgotten which club Bruce was at when he got Palacios, must have been Wigan, stupid cheap and stupid profit a year later, or was it 6 months.

Everton don't seem to, afaik, have anyone on loan either. Moyes should have been killing himself to get Jet/Vela on loan, Jet would have cost next to nothing wages wise, vs Yak, he's more than ready for the Prem, excellent player, Vela is much further along and a brilliant finisher. Again its wages I think more than fee's but freeing up some space on frankly useless players does free up wages for quality loan players.

Biggest problem with Babel is he seems totally oblivious to everything going on around him. When the balls at his feet he puts his head down and runs. Normally straight into an opposition player.

I always thought babel was never given a fair crack. he seems like a player that really thrives on trust and confidence but he never seemed to get a good run in the team.

One player they never should have sold was Benayoun. He always looked like the one player that could take over from Gerrard when he couldn't play for whatever reason, actually had some vision and came up with a few goals too. Couldn't believe they sold him when they did. Is he injured cos he hasn't played for Chelsea for months?

Would be great to see Suarez and Torres link up if he does come.

Not sure about Pienaar to Spurs either. I don't see how he really gives Harry anything extra, not that Tom huddlestone is a great player though!

Wenger admitting that defender search isn't going anywhere. Have to say I'm pleasantly surprised with how Djourou has turned out, but that wouldn't be because of the experience/class of those in the same position now eh Wenger? ;) I reckon Squillaci or Kos will go, they've both looked consistently error prone at the back.

Per Mertesecker was mentioned, still would love him at Arsenal. Don't mind Gary Cahill either but we wouldn't buy him / cost too much.

I had high hopes for Babel, on paper it sounded like he had a terrific set of abilities. Trouble was that his attitude stunk and his ego was so huge that I think the real reason we wanted a new stadium was to hold his ego. He thought himself a far better player than he actually was. In many ways imo, Babel absolutely epitomizes the term prima donna when used about footballers. Every single time that he failed to perform he had a multitude of excuses, everything and anything other than "it was me...I simply wasnt good enough".

If he was still a younger player, there might be time to sort him out and turn him into what his on-paper qualities suggest, but now..at 25 this year, he really should be much more than he is.

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is preparing a substantial bid for Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie as he looks to address his lack of effective attacking options.

I wouldn't mind that as history suggests that he'll no doubt get a long term injury before the season has ended. Such a pity really. Him, Cesc and Nasri were started to make a pretty devastating triangle going forward but we know it won't last. Real Madrid would be able to make a pretty sizeable bid as well, I say we take it should one be made.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made Blackburn defender Christopher Samba his top target as he tries to patch up his injury-hit back four.

He's no Gary Cahill who I rate more, but not a bad player. Huge.

I think if he came to Arsenal he would've ended up a much better player.

Really? We were interested in him years ago at Ajax then he went to 'Pool. I remember being disappointed with that, but then seeing him play over the years has made me realise we probably dodged a bullet.

I love Benty...he scored a hatful for sunderland last season, but we became so reliant on him it basically dictated the way we played...Bent didnt gel well with jones last season and didnt gel with gyan or welbeck this season..if you play 4-5-1 then its no problem for you (I am guessing villa can with young and gabby playing wider and bent up front by himself..woudl work really well I think)

our best performances this season have been when he has been injured and Gyan and welbeck up front.

as many have said not a great footballer but a superb goalscorer

the thing thats sticking sundelrand fans throats is all the cobblers he spouted about how grateful he was, and how he loved it here whilst behind the scenes he was engineering a move after 1 good season.

he is no different to any modern football player..loyal only to the highest bidder..dont let the rhetoric fool you

There was a fairly long discussion between me and someone else last year or maybe 2009, can't remember when, probably not worth searching for tbh but what I would say is that he looked pretty good before Liverpool got their hands on him. Whether that was because the Dutch league is lower quality than the Premier League I dunno, not saying it's all their fault but there are teams better equipped to handle youth players.

Aye, I think too much was billed on Gerrard and Torres who appeared at the end of the 90s, for years after nobody really came up. It's only now we're seeing e.g. Spearing.
