i found florida heat easier than vegas for some reason. And people say the Vegas heat is easy because its dry. 42c wasn't easy ! I tried to walk the length of the strip in the mid day sun and started to de hydrate half way down.

Florida was more like 36 and despite the increased humidity was much more bareable.

First time i came to the states, with my m8 we flew to NY, drove to Bowie on the outskirts of DC, spent a week in that area doing the civil war stuff and DC. ( we stayed with my mates family ) the second week, we drove upto Toronto, via Niagra. We stayed at Hamilton i thik it was called, just before you get to Toronto and caught the train into Toronto the next day. Then we drove round Lake Ontario and back into the states. From there we went down I95 to Boston, then Cape Cod, which is just amazing. Then back to NY for the flight home.

We drove to Toronto in August from here and stayed in the Business District We had to pay extra for parking, and for the 4 days we were there we never used the car. I would recommend maybe staying outside toronto and getting the train into the centre. Its a fantastic city.

And if your coming in Sept you've got to visit New England, its great :)

2 miles hiking through a desert in the midday sun , not even Ray Mears would do that! :P

Thats not an issue. In 2010 I did 2500 miles around California and in 2009 I did 5000 miles around Australia, lots of driving is something I enjoy :p Infact I'm concerned Florida might not have enough driving :D

Yeah, as I was writing it I knew it was a bit stupid since you had posed the question. :P
I personally wouldn't bother with DC unless you have a particular interest in US politics and then, Philadelphia would be more interesting with Boston second.
But, I'm swayed as I've spent the last week studying US constitutional law and the history of it.

the glossy shop fronts and the bright lights lull you into a false sense of security.

It feels like a walk down the street. But as you rightly say it is effectively hiking in the desert in the middle of the mid day sun in summer without water which would be suicidal.

I've done the Orlando -> Miami -> Keys road trip and it was amazing. However if you're in it for the roads and driving experience then you may find it boring. They are mostly straight and in block layout. There also isn’t much to do apart from chill out.

What we liked was the restaurants serving awesome food, the water sports and the luxury resort hotels in the Keys.

The Museums are fantastic in DC, the FBI building has an interesting tour around it too. Theres also Arlington National Cemetary across the river too. You can walk easily from the museums etc across the river to Arlington.

Theres just soooo much to see in this part of the world and you won't regret where ever you decide to go.

*Niagara :p

I voted the Canada one, Although I'd love to go to Florida, there's something about NY and Canada which makes me want to visit both. Not sure what it is though.

(that's albera btw)

Toronto is pretty boring. Have you thought about going to Montreal instead/as well?

If you've got two weeks then you could go all the way to Nova Scotia. :)

Option c, NYC up through Conneticut, RI, Mass and Maine, the scenery up the East coast is stunning, particularly in Maine.

I'll arrange a special welcome from immigration and then customs when you reach JFK :p
