Duke gets a release date

Please accept my apologies Mr. Sarcasm! Given the 12 year wait and past experiences of games with big hype that turn out to be utter dross (of which there have been some spectacular ones) then I think my scepticism is more than justified.

This is no normal release. People have been waiting a long time for this so expectations will be throught the roof.

Yes and don't you think Gearbox are fully aware of DNF's cult like following? They even said they were aware of the magnitude of this game and what it brings to the table in some interviews a while back when the dev takeover was announced.

Plus, Gearbox are no newbies to the genre anyway especially where PC gaming is concerned.

You make it sound like as if it's a fact that it will fail because of how long it has taken and how many changes it has had over the years. As for hype, the only official hype has been over the last couple of years and it's been in the form of 2 teaser trailers and an E3 demo.

OK, I'll accept my post was pretty damning. Look, don't get me wrong, I'd love for the game to be a hit, to be everything people hope for, but I, along with many others have been let down so many times in the past with previous long anticipated releases.

My point isn't that it will fail, but more that it won't live up to expectations. I'm sorry but 12 years of wait is hype in itself, they might not be promoting the balls off it, but as you said, DNF has a quite a cult following and after all this time it might just prove too difficult a bill to live up to.

Yeah but you're forgetting one key thing here,

Always bet on Duke.

Plus, the fact that previous Duke games have been mindless bonkers action and fun and going by the latest trailer this looks to be the exact same but in a next generation coat and top hat, well you get the idea.

Basically you think it's going to be "utter dross" because of your own ridiculous expectations based on a 12 year wait?

Here's an idea... treat it like it was just announced, has no history and just generally ignore the hype, then you might actually enjoy it! ;)

^

If treated like it were just announced, and it didn't have the whole DN hype going for it, everyone would be looking at the gameplay footage released and saying, "this looks kak".

Everyone, myself included, is giving it a chance purely based on its previous installments.

That ratings sticker is too small for Duke. Can't wait for the Outrage Squad to get all hysterical again! That alone should be a lot of fun.

Hope it's as irrelevant and irreverent as it's cracked up to be.

As i understand it, they have spent more time in the past year working on the game than the previous 10.

Nope. The game was around 95% complete or thereabouts when gearbox got it, theyre just doing some of the ports, polishing it and bug testing mainly.
