*** 25/02/2011 EXTENSION! *** DEAL OF CENTURY: Asus GeForce GTX 480 1536MB Graphics Card with 2 FREE

I'll do my bit when the governments (especially america, china and india) do theirs. There's not much point in me buying a more energy efficient graphics card and making sure my corn flakes boxes go in the brown bin when these countries are wasting tons and tons every day.

LOL. Get out clause number one. Good for you.

you can often compensate for any increases in power usage by just reducing sleep time :) go from 1 hr to 45 mins or something and you'll probably make up any difference :) (S3 sleep)

OK ignoring the energy saving environment side of it, by saving energy you have lower electricity bills, and this is something we can all benefit from :D

Regarding the energy bill saving with the 480 compared to ATIs equivalent(at the time a 5870 i think).the saving is around £20-30 per year i remember correctly from another thread quite a while ago now.

Hardly something to get that concerned about or excited

how much are we talking in money (cost to run this)

say £'s per week or month , extra above a more energy efficient card ?

edit:

never mind, i was too slow. post above answered

individuals can make no difference even when we are taking about millions. enjoy what you can afford at its maximum potential and dont let those ******** up there tell you otherwise.

Rubbish, it all makes a difference when you mutiple it by the billions on the planet.

say an additional 20W Idle (absolute max) and an additional 120W (absolute max) under load - over and above a more efficient card

say worst case 4 hrs gaming a day, pc on for a further 10 hrs just on - in windows

£2.80 a month or so :) - absolute worst case probably

Yeah its not a great amount but Id still rather have it than give it to British Gas or NPower or whatever, not saying it should be major deciding factor, but if you had 2 exactly same performing cards costing exactly same amount of money, youd obv go for the more efficient one, I know they arent exactly same performing (though v similar) and not exactly same cost (but again similar) but it is still a factor for some people, some more than others

Its not only about the power consumption, dont forget the noise and temps that two of these in SLI would produce :D

I dare anyone to put a pair of these in SLI with the stock cooling and run OCCT for a few hours :p

I still miss my 8800GTX over my current 4890

not sure the 8800GTX alwys seemed to do things by brute force, yes it get hot, but it did the job

I'm think the 480 GTX is along similar lines :)

I have just ordered one of these! I see it as an aid to helping reduce my heating bills.
I no longer have to have my 2 kw heater on full whack in my pc room should it be a touch nippy.
