***** The Crysis 2 Thread *****

Here's a question for those who have the game and have been playing it. Is it 4 years worth of effort better than the original crysis?

I found the story engaging, the single player was better than the first games (I enjoyed both but I am a fan of a good story, even at the price of linearity). Sure it is much more linear than the first but I appreciated the effort put into different routes and ways of doing things tactically... I do miss the massive open spaces but I enjoyed myself regardless. I didn't miss the helicopters following me around in the jungle forever though.

I thought the game was very rich graphically, some places I went "ooooooooooooooooooh aaaaaaah" at but I was struck by the fact that really... it is no better looking than the first game, so with that in mind I was a little disappointed but it is still an amazing looking game. Another disappointment was the low res textures I often saw (brought about by the consoles), a shame but certainly not game breaking. Fingers crossed they may actually release higher res textures / dx11 for the pc but I won't get my hopes up too much.

My biggest gripe is the AI glitching fairly regularly, getting stuck on scenery or not noticing me standing right next to them after killing someone. Sometimes they would go completely the opposite way and have an almost god like ability to know where I am despite being cloaked and moving away from my last position. I did play on Hard though, so maybe that was a difficulty thing. The big walkers frustrated me the most with this, perhaps I was just doing something wrong but during a few of the set pieces it took me forever to get a shot off at their week point due to continuous EMP ground humping and constantly facing me despite my being cloaked and moving.

TL: DR
Graphically it certainly hasn't advanced four years (for the pc anyway, for the consoles it's sublime), if you are only interested in the graphics taking a massive step forward you will be disappointed but it still looks amazing. Gameplay wise, I haven't enjoyed a single player FPS campaign that much for quite a long time and it didn't feel as cliched as the COD single player campaigns. I haven't touched the multiplayer yet, I probably wont as I much prefer either something nonsensical like TF2 or um... realistic(?) like BF:BC2 or BF2.

This is all just my opinion though :D.

I won't say its a console port,

seems to be lots of comments like this. It's not a matter of opinion. it is, or it isn't.
People have started to use the term 'console port' as a description of a game that they do not like. (not directed at you Number_25 btw, just using your quote:))

in regards to the game being slow to start, maybe they have overreacted to the general feeling that the first one kind of fell apart in the 3rd act, so they thought they should leave some set-pieces 'til later in the game, but didn't even it out enough?

You're right as well, just did a screenshot comparison, doesn't change anything.

i didn't notice much difference tbh. Initially i thought it seemed a bit sharper, but that was probably because i was expecting to see a difference. on comparison though, there isn't a whole lot of difference

I have the 360 and pc versions and visually they look almost identical the pc version uses some kind of AA as its smoother than the 360 but there is deffinately nothing left out on the 360.. The biggest + for the Pc is the draw distance is double the 360's which makes a huge difference in game. If you run on the 360 you can see the console struggle to draw everything in quick enough on the pc this does not happen.

I ran it on mine and it definitely turned the motion blur off, I hate it with a passion so I really notice it when it is on... it also changed my FoV.

As for the other things, I can't really say as my major concerns were the blur and FoV and I didn't bother running a comparison for things like Shaders or AA.

If it isn't changing anything for you guys I did read that running it as an admin makes it save the file to the correct place, otherwise it ends up in a my documents chain of settings options or something. Maybe grasping at straws though I'm not sure. This was the version 1.4 of the Advanced Graphics Options utility thingymabob.

Theres a lot of lighting and shadowing effects left out on the 360 version to improve performance.

Soon you will have people complain it's an arcade machine port... Remember the old days when games use to get ported from arcade machines ?

There is nothing wrong with this game, it's a fun game and it's meant to be entertainment and it does what it says on the tin.. it's a fun game and before anyone complains you must own a console... never owned one.. from spectrum to commodore 64 to atari st to commodore amiga to PC and have been on PC ever since... Yes my younger brothers have a console PS3 and Xbox and all the sega and nintendo stuff before that... You know what sometimes I look at consoles and wish we as PC gamers had some of the games especially the fighting games... everything else I want on a PC and to stay better on the PC ... Crysis 2 is clearly best on the PC version and just take a good look at the XBOX and PS3 version they really optimised them to work well on them consoles with lower texture quality and effects. The PC version runs great on my hardware and looks great too... Yes it's no crysis 1... but lets get real crysis 1 was more a tech demo/benchmark tool then a great game... I couldn't get into crysis 1 as I have crysis 2. I don't play tech demos or benchmark tools I want an entertaining game. Crytek listened to people like me and made it a game worth playing all way threw instead of a game I turn on go wow that looks cool but boring to play.. The result with crysis 1 is I played it a few times and never even bothered to complete it and I love FPS games.

I would like to see it get DX11 and options for video settings so we can turn on AA/AF to what we want and turn on and off effects we do and don't like.

i was wondering if it was working actually, as there is no indication that it has been activated. you are right about the motion blur, allows you to turn it off, which i found better.
I did also change some of the settings in the cofig file as well.

Thanks mate.

I would use latest non-beta, but drivers have problem with DA2 :P

Where is official nvidia SLI patch I can't find it :S

*EDIT*
That patch doesn't work, just fails to find my installation, says reinstall.........................

Read the mycrysis forums there is a fix to the fail install where it does not find the installation.. Can't remember what it was but think it involved editing a cfg file in the crysis 2 directory or mygames area.

Also some one stated they did this and it worked.

1.copy folder crysis 2 to C:
2.rename folder "crysis 2" only
3.installation Crysis 2 Patch 1.1 [manual download]

Also try running the patch from the crysis 2 folder see if that helps. Just copy the patch to the folder 1st and run it.

when you apply the settings, it creates a config file, but it isn't in the Crysis2 folder.
i wasn't sure if it was working, so i've just copied the settings from the file it created into the config file in the crysis 2 folder to be sure.

So for a hour I've been trying to play multiplayer, after about 5 mins or so I get disconnected. This is getting so unbelievably frustrating.

bad isn't it. shame, because it's good when you can get a game.
Small maps do suit it imo. would be good if there were a few bigger one though, maybe with vehicles...

with everything maxed out at 1920x1200 i'm managing anything from 60 (vsynced) down to 35-ish.

not bad for a 6950 flashed to 6970 i guess?
