Well, got my second canvas through today. I was a bit worried as the packaging was a tad battered but it doesn't look like it's damaged the canvas itself or the wooden frame :)

BD again for scale, (although it is also sitting on a full sized digital piano as well to give you a sense of scale). It's big .... it's very big ... and looks very good (again the phone camera pictures don't really do it justice).

:D

I really like that, where did you get that from? I'm after something that big for my hallway and one for the living room. That would look good on my wall once the decorating is finished :)

Canvas print from here (same place as the one in post 8755) ... this one is the largest size they do (90cm x 130cm) and fortunately they had a half price code for Mothers Day ;)

Image is a high-res one from a Google image search, (the online creation tool tells you if the image is good enough for the canvas size).

edit: for reference the image file I used was 4310x3030

Thanks. Must have missed your first post about this. Could be about to spend a lot of money on pictures :)

Very nice on that canvas...if I had the cash and some high res S&W artwork I loved I'd go for it...
(The painting style holo one is kinda a little too ...obvious)

promo for the new Last Exile series.

It seems that Aki Toyosaki (Yui, K-On) is playing the lead so that should be....interesting?. Seems she's branching out from that one high pitched role as Yui. Psychotic Angeloids, shy hotel staff, steampunk pilots.

SPOILERS BELOW

I'd also guess that it isn't set on earth as one of the final shots in that trailer shows the female lead flying with six moons in the background (0.59) (but you never know with gonzo). Also at the end of the trailer from 1:03 onwards it shows a ship that looks very very much like Exile, it appears how it was shown in the final episode when it shed it's cocoon and it was revealed as an interstellar colony ship.

I'm intrigued as to how it all fits in, but then i'm a sci fi geek :p. One of the few series i'm really looking forward to. Please please don't moeify it Gonzo :(.

Since starting to watch Anime about a week ago, I'm finding it pretty good. I've bought/ordered a load of Blu-Rays to keep me entertained. So far I've watched Summer Wars which was very good, The Witchblde series which was good but didn't build as much as I'd hoped and I'm now on the 6 episode (mission) of the Devil May Cry series which so far I'm really enjoying. Waiting after that I have Shigurui Death Frenzy, Ghost on the Shell 2.0/Innocence, Evangelion 1.11, Afro Samurai Murder session, Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings, Sword of the Stranger and waiting delivery of Samurai Champloo. So that lot should keep me entertained for a while!

Also I Subscribed to the next 6 issues of Neo Magazine on the iPad, I bought the magazine this week and found it quite interesting, maybe I can then make educated decisions on what to buy instead of random "buy now" choices :)

Yeah once I started looking I found lots to appeal that arent mainstream shounen-fest shows (ie Bleach, Naruto, DBZ, OP) which dont appeal to me that much...

Personal recommendations of mine would be:
Beck (music)
Toradora! (drama/romcom)
Kanon (drama - you really need to finish the first 10 eps with this before it soars)
Spice and Wolf (fantasy/economics/romance)
Elfen Lied (gore/comedy/drama)
Fullmetal Panic! [all seasons] (Mecha, romance, comedy, fish-out-of-water)
Bakemonogatari (supernatural)

You might like Black Lagoon too (violence,revy,fish-out-of-water,crime)

Of those, Beck, Kanon, Elfen Lied and probably S&W should be fairly cheap to obtain a US import of, Bakemonogatari will be fansub only.

Theres unfortunately a lot of very good stuff not licensed for the UK, sometimes not even for the US.

Seen these and agree

Not gonna worry us though;) :D

lol I never said it did Andarial, but as Jase is new to the hobby I thought I'd try and make it clear how much good stuff (better than a lot of stuff he WILL see) not available on the UK market except via fansub/import.

I would point out to Jase that whilst there is a smaller range available in the UK directly there is a large amount available from the US (if you have a multiregion DVD player) and a lot legally streamable from Crunchyroll without having to resort to illegal downloads.

I would also suggest the Anime planet website which allows you to search by genre and see what people recommended based on things you have liked.

Good site that,I used to use that all the time in my early otaku days :)
before I met you lot here with your advice on what is available

Multi-region player is a must for watching animé as so much stuff is indeed available to order from the states or Japan

Thanks for the further info, I was meaning to ask where you guys get your DVD's and Blu-Ray from as I'd already discovered a lot are not available in this country. All the ones I have were UK ones but the Samurai Champloo set I had to order off the bay from the US.

I have a Multiregion DVD and Blu-Ray player so there's no problem there and I have just looked on the anime Planet site which will be handy.

I saw Crunchyroll mentioned earlier, what is it like? worth paying a subsciption for? The only thing that worries me is during the day my Internet is nice and fast but during the evening it's much slower at approx 200. Not sure how streaming from there would be then.

For US anime DVD's I tend to order from www.rightstuf.com these days, not always the cheapest, but can be very hard to beat, especially with the got anime 10% off (which stacks with the normal discount, to make it approaching 40% off RRP), let alone their sales which can be very good value:D (and their clearance bundles can make exceptional value).

www.up1.co.uk are a pretty good UK based retailer of R1 anime (no import tax etc to worry about).

I find Crunchyroll to be pretty reasonable when I stream which is rarely, but my connection is a fair bit faster than that. Note that you can access most stuff without a paid subscription but with a slight delay and in a lower resolution so you can try things out first.

For buying stuff for me it tends to be United Publications (as Werewolf mentioned), a certain Rainforest site (in either .com, .co.uk or .co.jp incarnations), or Rightstuf (again as per W).

United Publications tends to get most of my business; they are not the cheapest (particularly for UK stuff, in fact don't buy UK stuff from there unless you have checked other UK sites as they tend to be expensive) but you don't have to ship to the credit card address and you don't have to worry about import duty as everything ships to them and then gets sent out to you.

Rightstuf (TRSI) tend to be cheaper than UP, especially if you have GotAnime and hit a studio sale there, but they only ship to the credit card address, shipping can take quite a long time (3-4 weeks is my average from them) and you have the risk of import duty/vat on large orders. They also, used to at least, have rather non-standard requirements for your first order (credit card wise).

If you want to get more adventurous and get original releases (which probably won't have English subs) then Yes Asia and Play Asia are other options.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'll advocate imports and streaming where possible (its a shame we can't get Funimation's free streams as they have some really good shows on that eg Beck), but there are some series that are worth watching (Bakemonogatari as an example) which haven't been picked up elsewhere as far as Im aware for whatever reason; or alternatively have been licensed but are nowadays almost unobtainable for various reasons and that makes them no less worth watching :)
(I'm quite looking forward to Bake's prequel series thats due...in the future)

Glad there are more Blurays coming though nowadays, not just for the picture upgrade, but the subs!

Thanks again for the advise guys. I was having a look on the US sites and really surprised by how many Blu-Rays there are now. I'd prefer to get Blu-Rays than DVD's if there's a choice of both so I can see this new found interest is going to be expensive :)

I just finished watching the Devil may Cry series and loved it, each episode (mission) got better imo.. I'm going to watch the extra's now and then hopefully watch Evangelion 1.11 later.

I can, it's pretty simple as all you need is an american vpn so you show as an american ip. Watched loads of us stuff that way :D

Any recommendations for VPN providers?

Quite a slow weekend anime wise as the Parents were visiting so I was pretty busy. Did manage to fit in Summer Wars and the original four You're Under Arrest OVAs, both in dub mode. I thought that the dub on Summer Wars wasn't bad although I do prefer it with the original audio.
