I see MangaUK have put out a few release dates today ... these include:

Haruhi Season 2 (deluxe including Haruhi-chan) : July 4th
Birdy The Mighty Decode : July 11th
Disappearance of Haruhi (DVD & BD) : July 25th

Hopefully the first of these doesn't suffer from the audio issue of the US release. The second of these I would heartily recommend and the last I am look forward to on BD.

Just watched the GITS Bluray and its pretty good, makes it a lot more watchable. When I first put it on I didn't really notice anything impressive but the disc also has the original transfer too which looked terrible by comparison. The only crit I will level at it is the new 3D scenes, I just don't see the point, wished they would have made them optional.

On a side note Gundam 00 looks awesome on bluray.

Noise around and about to about the UK release of K-On! from MangaUK. Looks like it'll be released as a complete series on BD (2 disks?) in Q1 '12 (the US release is due to start in April with 3 or 4 episode single BDs) for <£50. UK DVD releases look to be roughly following the US schedule but they don't think there is the UK market for the singles BD release.

see here on UK Anime Net with a clarification from MangaUK in the comments to the story.

Personally I'm getting the US BD release.

And you just proved the point I made on their forums that a majority of people won't wait for a domestic boxset release even if it is going to be cheaper (the moment I see a region free notification for the US releases is the time I place my order since there isn't any way to remove the BD region locks on my Philips BD player) since they'd gotten their fingers burned on the FMA:B BD release (since funimation had zones A+B region locking on the first 2 releases) I'm predicting a right royal roasting if Bandai don't region lock the K-On BD's.

Too true ... if I want a series and there is a release which is acceptable I'll pick that up instead of waiting as long as I can play it.

I will be picking up their Disappearance of Haruhi S on BD (despite having the Hong Kong release) and I may pick up the MoHS series 2 release to replace the flawed R1 release (and gain Haruhi-chan) dependent on price, (despite having the JP BD box).

I think i'll probably wait on k-on, although the delay is a little long.

Haruhi S2 is £30 at one of the retailers and the Disappearance is £18 on blu, I've ordered both :) (chances are they'll drop a little more before release).

I've had a busy few weeks so I haven't really watched anything since I dropped Kanokon. Probably going to start watching something again soon so just umming and ahhing on what now hehe :D

On a slightly Anime related note Totoro is in Toy Story 3 :D

Yup I noticed this too, watched it the other day for the first time and noticed him.

I been slow on watching stuff lately, got the last ep of Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya to watch then I have heard the film is good to watch too.

Ah, so they're up for order now ... they weren't when I looked earlier in the day :)

I've been re-watching Densha Otoko (drama) this week interspersed with various episodes of the new series' now airing. I like the Densha series ... it's both funny and touching ... and I <3 Misaki Ito :)

For the new series now airing I'd make the following comments so far ...

Hanasaku Iroha ... liking this a lot so far. Probably my favourite series so far this season.
A Channel ... I liked this ... I'm not sure why, it reminded me of several other series in various good ways.
A Bridge to the Starry Sky ... Quite amusing first episode. Seems pretty formulaic but quite enjoyable anyway.
30-sai no Hoken Taliku ... sorry but the over the top censorship in the first episode made this completely unwatchable.
Hen Zemi ... frankly thought this was rubbish
Ore-tachi Ni Tsubasa we Nai ... I really don't know what to think of this at the moment. The episode structure was a bit of a train-wreck so I don't really know where they will be going with it.
Sofuteni ... fairly mindless fun ... animation could be better though.
Dororon Enma-kun Meramera ... found this better than I initially expected. Quite funny even though the animation is slightly odd in style.

Pixar's April Fools the other week made me laugh

Little bit of trivia for those who don't know: John Lasseter (Director, Producer, CCO at Pixar) is friends with Miyazaki, and has overseen many of the English Dubs for the Ghibli films, including Spirited Away, hence the Totoro cameo in Toy Story 3.

Been working my way through Index 2 still, fun, entertaining, i think there is still allot to cover from the light novels though. Certainly a variety of characters.

Hanasaku Iroha is shaping up nicely, some of the characters are really dislikeable though.

A-Channel, i'm not sure, first episode didn't really hold my attention, kind of felt like a poor mans K-On/Lucky Star. I'll watch the second episode though, to see if it's just a fluke.

Hopefully I'll get around to start watching this on Friday ...

Oh yes ... there are some characters who come across as .... well ... not nice .... although by the end of episode 2 my opinions of some of them had started to change a bit ...

I'm not sure how much I'd compare it with those two series at the moment. In some ways it reminded me, in feel, of Seitokai no Ichizon .... but it is early days yet ...

edit:

Hmm it appears that the US release of K-On on BD has lossy audio .... will have to see how much of a real probably that actually is ... might end up double dipping on the UK release after all ...

Just finished watching the first episode of A.ria the Scarlet Ammo which was pretty fun.

It's like the spiritual successor to Toradora. You have Junji Majima (Who voiced Ryuji) as the..eccentric male lead, and Rei Kugimiya (Taiga) voicing the loli tsundere lead A.ria. She even has the swords and slave thing going on.. :p

I thought it was pretty fun to watch for a first episode tbh, looks like it will be high on the comedy with a dose of fanservice, but in a tasteful way.

Looking forward to the next episode.

Also watched the first episode of Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai.

Mmm thats some good stuff, i definitely think this season is shaping up to be better than the last few months. The animation is great, and it has an interesting premise and cast of characters. It looks like this could be a real tear jerker. The series has Tatsuyuki Nagai, the director of Toradora behind it and it's written by Mari Okada who has done scripts for A.ria, True Tears, Toradora and most recently has/is working on Fractale and Hanasaku Iroha. Suffice to say i'm expecting good things from this :).

Started watching Index II last night .... seen about the first third so far and am enjoying it immensely.

I see that NISA have announced that they have Katanagatari and Arakawa Under the Bridge ... both of these are "misses" for me (particular the latter). One thing though is that they appear to be following the trend of including both BD's and DVD's.

I also I see that TokyoPop have announced that they are ceasing North American operations .... :(

edit:

Watched a couple of films this afternoon ...

Welcome to the Space Show ... I really enjoyed this. I watched the Japanese regular edition BD release (which has English subtitles). The story is basically about a group of elementary/middle-school children who are staying at a their schools summer camp and end up, through a strange series of events due to looking for a runaway rabbit, travelling into space and having an adventure there. The film is quite long at over two hours but holds your attention all of the way through as it is nicely paced. It also looks and sounds excellent. In style I would put it as a science fiction Ghibli film as it has much the same feel and quality as one of those.

Eden of the East Movie 1: King of Eden ... watched this as the Funimation BD release. I like the series of Eden of the East and this continues on six months after the series finishes. The film continues in much the same way. the only issue I have with it though is that it doesn't feel like a film, more a stretched episode .... note I purposely say stretched instead of extended ... the amount of "plot" seems to be about the same as a typical EotE normal length episode, hence the film is a tad disappointing. I was hoping that the folm would move things on more. It's not bad and if you like the series then I'd say to watch it, but don't expect to much. Note that it does have the summery "film" of the series, Air Communication, as an extra on the disk.

I'm also looking forward to **** no Hidan, but waiting til the end of the series to check :) Also found those Toradora books Andarial mentioned, as I remember they're the original source of the anime, and vary in a few places such as the ending, so I'm looking forward to a read :)

Started watching Dragon Crisis yesterday, which seems a bit of an ironic choice given its very much Toradora with Dragons in terms of casting. It's definately no great series so far (4 eps in) but as a light hearted reentry series for me it's fine. Not finding it as pointless as Kanokon either which is making it easier for me.

Current plan for tonight after work is to carry on with Dragon Crisis, or watch GITS/TGWLTT Bluray. Not sure yet which I fancy. Either way I'll probably finish DC by the end of tomorrow as Im off then.
After that my plan is to watch the entirety of Index/Railgun; I'd grabbed the first series of Railgun and Index just before discovering that Index2 was just around the corner, so I've been waiting patiently to watch these, as I really like sci-fi/magic mixes, and this sounds right up my street, so hopefully it won't be dissapointing.

I haven't seen Katanagatari yet so I can't pass comment on that (although it is on my to check out list..not a fan of the art style mind), although agree I wont be picking up Arakawa from NISA.

IIRC weren't Tokyopop handling FMP!...? Given what I've heard about thier handling of the translation process, if they release the license, hopefully someone else like Yen will pick it up and actually finish the series appropriately.
