Modding my car :)

You guys make me laugh. You would much rather someone spent an extra £5k to buy a new car, as opposed to spending £1k on some very worthwhile mode, which he could reuse once he finally has the funds and is in the position to buy a nice STi. Those few mods would make his car much nicer for now.

well no, because the one i linked to is a JDM model

8k redline, twinscroll turbo, HID lights, DCCD, and being the JDM model remaps nicely too. That and the fact its already been remapped and has a full stainless decat exhaust.

Cost of mods plus his car wouldn't be far off that STi I posted though :p

Sell the WRX and get a blob eye STI and then once your bored of that power you can start playing about .. That spoiler and those wheels are just wrong :p

Cheers

I'd go with this, sounds like you need to spend at least about 2k to get the power you want. And that's without an uprated clutch or any other supporting mods, brakes etc.

I'd much rather have the sti, it will handle the power much better and I'm sure is more fun.

Is true I sold my Scooby and went to the Evo 6 and wished I had just bought the Evo in the first place...

I loved my scoob and still prefer the looks tbh (and miss that noise) ...

But i must admit in terms of an out of the box package the evo is simply on another level ... The price of the car over the scooby reflects this i feel.

The car really does look rubbish. I think its the wheels, lights, and spoiler. Shame really.

Lee if you can stretch to a blob eye STI i really think it would be worth it, Handling / Braking / Power will be a massive improvement and should keep you occupied for quite some time and when you do become bored at least you have a decent base to start on. Without being rude the combo of the spoiler / wheels & the fact its a bug eye makes it one of the most ugly scoobs ive seen :p

I'd recommend before you spend a single penny, make sure you know every last thing you will be spending money on (including labour, mapping (perhaps more than once), rolling road).

Know where you are going and what it will cost because once you start it will be harder and harder to say no and go down the STI route (or whatever else) even if it turns out that is what you decide you really want in the end.

There appears to be a rather large amount of disdain for your car here which prompts me to ask a question. Did you buy this car because you loved it or because you settled for a car that was within budget but not 100% what you wanted?

The response to this dictates exactly what you should do and be honest, don't let pride get in the way.

Thats a good point, no point polishing up something you aint 100% happy with to start.

The best thing to do is sell the car, and buy an STi that has already been modified, I'm not talking some chav's wet dream with a "chip" and an undyno'ed "500bhp m8", but a car from a well respected member of the enthusiast community, from the for sale sections on SIDC, Scoobynet etc, or any well documented cars on PH that have been looked after by Zen Performance (back when they did mechanical work), Roger Clark, Scooby Clinic or one of the few other good specialists.

If you do this then you'll save yourself thousands, and get a great car, you could sell your car and buy another standard car, but you're going to be throwing away thousands when you modify it later (and you will), whereas if you buy a car that fits the above criteria, you'll usually pay little or no more than a standard example, but that's already had all the mods carried out for its level (before you get into forged engines etc) and end up getting £3-5k+ of mods for free.

This is a good point, I am not sure what Acemodders oppinion is on this but I'd to be inclined to sell it and look at spending more time to get what would be considered a very clean car.

I too am not a fan of this cars particular looks, I feel it looks a bit tacky/chavish and I generally tend to like Impreza's a lot looks wise, out of all the Scoobies and EVO's the Hawkeyes are the most pleasing on the eye.

I just really dislike the UK300 conversion on Acemodders, I just think it looks fugly to be honest but he may like it.

I suppose if one can look past the looks and he can get it upto a reliable 300-330BHP without costing a small fortune he will have a quick reliable car for very little money, just an ugly one. :p
