Modding my car :)

throwing those headlights in the bin would be a step in the right direction if hes keeping it, never mind making it go faster

Told him this since he got it.

I think him selling the car and getting a new one will cost quite a bit of money, wheras he maybe able to get the power he wants for nowhere near the same kind of expense.

Surely not?

His car? Say 3500
Mod budget - At least a grand

A STI of his shape can't be much more than 5k?

So if he gets 3.5k for his and his mod budget is 1k, can you really pick up a clean STI for less than 5k, surely they are all dogs that level?

They look much better than the standard headlights. It's the grille that makes it look off. I like it.

They might look better, but they are still awful and agreed I don't like the grill either.

Just sell him yours, then he will have a cracking Subaru. :D

There is a difference in running costs though. And Lee has kids that he carries around. Does he really need an STi which is more expensive to run?!

My Dad has had a modified WRX for years, and is yet to go for more power. And he doesn't wish he had an STi either. Do the exhaust, fuel pump and remap. Then just enjoy it. Get it on track etc, then decide if you really want an STi!

Mine won't be for sale for a while :D if ever! I've just fit a quiet exhaust today too!!! :p The money I would get for it would just be pointless, shame really, but it's a good excuse to keep it!

As said that's all I'm doing, I just want to basically add PPP to it and nothing more.

So exhaust, y pipe and then an ecutek map. Haven't really thought about the fuel pump as the wrx ppp didn't include one.

For the type of driving I do whilst I'd like to change the springs, change out some of the cats, stick some brembos on, it's just all not needed :)

Is there really a noticeable difference between a STI and a WRX modified to STI performance?

Massively.. no. But the increased weight of the STi = less fuel economy. The bigger brakes are more expensive, the bigger tyres are more expensive, insurance is more expensive and that's to name a few. Then you have in the back of your mind that you can mod the hell out of it without breaking things.

But then when you mod an STi, things get even more expensive as you need even better brakes and suspension and tyres etc. Vicious http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...YhQeBmpTMBQ&ved=0CCEQvwUoAQ&q=vicious&spell=1circle!

The way I see goes like this.

I don't have a massive budget to buy cars.

My car history is not the best. lol

1st car - 106 diseil - blew up with head gasket (L reg lol, first car)
2nd car - Corsa 1.4 automatic (was terrible) but the only car locally I could find under £500 that evening which was TAX'd and MOT'd so I could get to work the next day. The car lasted 3 weeks. (S reg)
3rd car - Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 petrol (W reg)
4th car - MG ZS 1.8 (02 plate)
5th car - Subaru Impreza

I have 2 kids and my wife is currently in full time education now, so funds are limited.

I'm happy with my Impreza, it's the first "performance" car I have owned, and yes I know there are better cars out there, but with my limited budget of £4000 when I bought it I got a decent car, with good power levels. My car is great for the budget I have, yes if I have more disposable income then of course I would get a better, newer car. I would love a hawkeye STi in White, but cannot afford it at the moment(maybe once my wife is back working with a job she will enjoy).

My exhaust on my car has become faulty - with the downpipe blowing, causing my o2 sensors to go mental, causing the car to fuel badly - so I have decided to mod my car partly due to having needing a new exhaust pipe anyway. So to answer some of you guys, I have a car that is great for what I can afford :)

I wanted a fun car, I have a fun car. The car is 10 years old, 10 year old cars do/can look dated/ugly whatever. I prefer a car that feels fun to drive as apposed to being very pretty or boring. I am making the car a little more fun with a new exhaust so haters, go hate elsewhere :)

I see no haters, just a load of really clued people, some with quite considerable Impreza knowledge, giving you a load of really decent advice.

Just because the advice goes against what you want to do doesnt make them haters nor does it make it appropriate to tell them to 'go hate elsewhere', IMHO :)

It sounds like you should buy the decat exhaust system you've been offered and go for an open source remap (from someone like racedynamix). The only other thing you'll definitely need then is a new fuel pump, I've seen walbro 255's going for £40 or less on scoobynet. That way you've only spent approx £670 and that should see your car running 260 - 270bhp. You should get away with keeping the stock clutch/injectors at that power level. Once mapped it will feel considerably faster and hopefully be enough to make you want to keep the car for a while. If you're set on achieving 300bhp and fitting a new turbo then I agree with the others, save up and buy an STI!

Keeping the mods sensible sounds like a good idea, though if it was my car the spoiler and headlights would be going pronto.

The spoiler I do love, but the options for the headlights are limited.

I think the 2nd image is the best looking lights.
