I wouldn't recommend first time players doing this as it will spoil the game, but if you've completed the game already and you're just after a few achievements then it's a nice way to level up quickly and get a lot of medical equipment.

Basically you go to HELIOS One which will start "That Lucky Old Sun", go and talk to Fantastic and tell him you want to help him, then go and talk to Ignacio Rivas who is in the same room, tell Rivas that you're a Follower of the Apocolypse, you can do that by using the confirmed bachelor perk, or by passing a 30 speech challenge.

Once you've convinced him you're a Follower you need to carry on playing the quest as normal, so link up the two terminals, then go into the mainframe area and repair it, you can do this either by using one piece of scrap metal and having 35 repair skill, or by having the Poseidon ID Card OR 45 Science which allows you to tell a robot to repair it for you.

Once this is done you can use the mainframe to decide where to route the power, it's important that you choose to send the power to the full region, the option that says Full Region Emergency Power Output or something like that. Once you've done that you need to go outside onto the tower and align the mirrors, when that's done you can go back to Rivas and tell him you overloaded the plant, he'll reward you with 3 Stimpaks, 2 Doctor's Bags and 385XP, if you've cleared your 360's cache and you play the unpatched version you can just keep selecting this option over and over. You'll probably be over-encumbered with Doctor's Bags because they have weight, but you can just walk to Novac and dump your stuff there.

You can do hardcore in about 2 hours start to finish if you just want to get it out of the way, theres a few guides kicking around the net.

You can do hardcore in about 2 hours start to finish if you just want to get it out of the way, theres a few guides kicking around the net.

I did the hardcore speed run as well, around two hours and the game can be completed without killing anyone with a gun, truly amazing guide.

Are the enemies like Cazadors and Radscorpions a pain in the ass though? I imagine that on a speedrun combat takes a backseat so that speech skills can be levelled up?

Speech is maxed ASAP so that a lot can be skipped, female gender to get Benny to have sex with you so you can kill him while he is sleeping and speech 100 at the end means no fighting.

Radscorpions can be ran past and Cazadors can be avoided, you do need to follow the guide carefully as it outlines a specific route thru the world.

You're right.

I'm about half way through, I've got three tribes left to speak to and then I'll install Yes Man into the Lucky 38 mainframe, I'm about an hour and a bit in.

I met a load of Giant Radscorpions in Scorpion Gulch but with 10 agility I just ran past them all, I was scared they'd catch me, it was pretty intense. ^_^

Yep, it was actually quite easy as you can outrun them or jump over them.

One part I died was when I met some raiders on my way to Red Rock, but otherwise it wasn't that bad, I set difficulty to Very Easy.

Yeah Veronica died when I was running past the raiders, I almost got killed by a fire Gecko in the same place but managed to just get there in time and then fast travelled back the The Strip, it's been an absolute cake walk so far, just about to enter the final battle for the dam. I read somewhere that higher agility doesn't make you run faster but it does seem faster to me, maybe I'm crazy.

I finally got the plat. Was thinking I would have to use ages getting explosives damage as I haven't found many vendors that sell stuff but I managed to do it in about 10 minutes!

Now I just gotta wait for PSN to be back up for the DLC

I've been trying to do the explosive one for ages, I've done guns and energy weapons, just need melee and explosives. I think during that run I only drank two bottles of water, I only had 9 Stimpaks for the whole game.

For the melee one I was gonna go to that cave with all the Lakelurks in and pick up Pushy, and then go to Quarry Junction and batter some Deathclaws.

If you asked me yesterday I would have said yeah it's more stable on 360, but this evening the game has screwed up on me about 5 times, in the end I just gave up on playing it. It's really random, like earlier I was playing it fine for about 6 hours straight, yesterday I played it from 10 in the morning until 11 at night with no problems.

The new patch has really sorted out the stability (and performance!) problems for me on PS3. I've gone back to get the final few trophies for the platinum (pick 50 pockets, and the Mr House quest ones) and it's been solid as a rock.

I have had a couple of sound issues though, sometimes the sound will get really crackly and laggy. The two times that it's happened, I've been around the NCR Sharecropper Farms, so I don't know if it's a cell glitch causing the issue, or my specific setup (5.1 output via optical). Didn't have a single sound issue pre-patch though.

This being my fourth run through now, I'm finding it really repetetive, I just can't be bothered doing half of the quests properly. It probably doesn't help that the pickpocket trophy is incessantly dull as a player who never uses theft :/
