The appearances figure (180 odd) says it all really - but what do UTD fans think of Fletcher?

Not world class, but very simple and probably good. Seems to be liked (Scottish connection?). Always surprised that he's made it there.

Good engine - decent tackler, ok-ish scorer (16 league goals in 188 apps, 21 in total in nearly 300 apps) but always thought he wouldnt have survived his woeful start to his Utd club career if he wasnt Scotish. He has done a lot better in recent seasons, but for such a vital part of the team Utd seem to carry him too often imo

A decent squad player but Utd should be able to rely on better quality for 1st XI imo

edit ( in general Utd have not scored enough from central midfield for far too long, this needs to change drastically imo)

Fletcher has odd flashes of brilliance that leads me to believe that's he more than just another O'Shea to be honest, I still remember a year or two ago (can't remember the specific game though) when Fletcher sliced a curving banana-pass that stretched around the entire opposition's back line and landing right at Rooney's feet more than half-way across the pitch, and the accompanying 'ahh's that followed it at Old Trafford.

Even the most casual fan would have seen Suarez was a quality player at the World Cup (handball aside).

The amazing thing is that he is looking awesome at the moment even without scoring many, In Holland he was banging in 30+ a season, add goals to what he is doing and we are looking at something spectacular :)

Why do people automatically assume players will make good coaches, they can do, MOST don't end up as good coaches though.

Its such an easy thing to say, King is massively over rated, as often are so many players out injured a lot, it becomes a case of remember the best games then think how games would have gone if he played at his best all the time instead of being injured.

Did Adam's, a catagorically better defender than King has ever looked, become the best defensive coach or manager in the world? Not even close, and this guy was a born leader on the pitch, and a ridiculously good defender.

A top 6 club should really have top of their game coaches for every role if they really want to be serious.

Should Spurs really have Sherwood and Ferdinand as their coaches as it is? Have the strikers all been on top form with ex player Ferdinand, with zero coaching ability, as their coach? Do they really want to have a vast array of ex players with no coaching ability on staff?

I find the throw away comment of "I hope they stay after and coach" ridiculous.

Again most players don't end up being good coaches, a huge number of the best managers around were fairly average or rubbish players....... completely different skill sets.

Particularly with King it is the idea that he lives and dies Spurs. He may not become the greatest coach but he has been a great captain and player for spurs. In my mind you start building a dynasty by remembering greatness and building it into the foundations of the future King could be a great asset in this regard. It reminds the mercenary current generation of players of class and that they should take pride in who they play for; that there is a history that they are now part of.

Imagine if Adams walked onto the training pitch at Arsenal- you would hope the defenders would find that extra 10% to try and impress one of the old guard who lived and breathed for the club.

On the other hand I wouldn't put it past the soulless bunch of twallops who currently play in the PL not to give a flying donkey turd when they saw a club hero turn up.

Fletcher has a specific role to play in the squad, its not a role that needs filling in every match though, rather like Park, they are good at what they do, but what they do, most of the time, isnt needed, so they just look out of place.

Park more than Fletcher.

So its got to be either De Gea or Stekelenburg then. Gill implies a new DR could be coming in then if Brown leaves as well as Neville retiring. Perhaps we'll see Fabio/Rafael rule the right with Evra and Enrique from Newcastle covering the left? Add in a midfielder to replace, or shadow, Scholes I think we'd be pretty sorted going into next season. :)

I think we need to put our faith in Rafael at RB with Rick as deputy. Fabio can back up Evra or play RB when needed so i dont see a need to bring in anyone there.

The interesting one will be the Scholes replacement.

I still think we will go for Rodwell and Young ahead of the likes of Sneijder.

It will be Stekelenburg I think cause he rejected a new contract from Ajax last week and only has a year left so we should be able to pick him up quite cheap.

It will have nothing to do with price. We got Bosnich for nowt and SAF said he should have signed VDS instead.

We will sign the keeper that the manager wants regardless of cost.

I think i read something a couple of days ago about VDS recommending Stekebatternberg as well. Perhaps VDS knows he wants to move to OT.

Rick = De Laet? The Scholes replacement will indeed be the interesting/big transfer of the summer for us. We've been linked with quite a few players whereas we know of just two possible names who are realistic VdS replacements. I think we'll need to sign a ready made Scholes replacement and not someone who needs a few seasons at OT to get to the level we need.

I've read similar things as well. VdS obviously knows Stekkers well and it wouldn't surprise me if he's pitching Stekkers to Fergie/Utd because he knows that his countryman wants to sign for Utd.

O'Shea, Rick O'Shea, ricochet. OK not my finest work..............

If Modric played for anyone except Spurs i would say we would be buying him but i can see Spurs not wanting to sell to us.

I would buy Rodwell and Young and sit back and watch them become proper players.

Sergio Aguero's agent will be a VIP guest at Anfield today

edit: nobody bit :(

He's also Maxi's agent so it's probably nothing :)

I wouldnt be surprised to see Evra leave (yes I know he only just signed a new contract), he has been decent without a doubt - but he has also lost a reasonable amount of pace over recent months too and the new contract could be a "thank you" to everything the club has done for him before he goes to RM (I believe Maureen is very interested) and he is also reported to have said "Love Utd , hate Manchester" with a lot of feeling

So it could be a combination of Enrique and Fabio down the left and Rafael / OShea down the right next season (baring in mind it looks like a few clubs are interested in Enrique)

I also wouldnt be that surprised if "2-3" implies first team, and there are one or two young squad players added not included in that figure.

If anyone makes a big bid for a full back it should be accepted without question. We won the CL with a centre back playing there.

I presume you are meaning Brown - who played the full 98/99 season practically at RB, so the implication of your statement isnt really true imo

Wes Brown was a CB. We can argue all day what his best position is but the point im making is that the fact thats its even up for debate shows the importance of the position.

It wass illustrated perfectly by Rafa Benitez spending a huge amount of his budget on Glen Johnson. A good player but not a game changer. How did that work out?

A top full back is the icing on the cake, its not really part of the cake.
