O'Shea, Rick O'Shea, ricochet. OK not my finest work..............
You can say that again! :p

If Modric played for anyone except Spurs i would say we would be buying him but i can see Spurs not wanting to sell to us.
Unfortunately I can't see Spurs letting us have Modric or Bale for anything less than silly money where we'd be better off buying other players for those positions and still having money left over to improve the rest of the squad.

I would buy Rodwell and Young and sit back and watch them become proper players.
I guess if SAF thinks Rodwell and Young are good enough for Utd, either now or in a few seasons, he'll do his best to sign them. It wouldn't surprise me if we get an established midfielder to replace Scholes so that we don't have a gap between him retiring and his replacement getting good.

So it could be a combination of Enrique and Fabio down the left and Rafael / OShea down the right next season (baring in mind it looks like a few clubs are interested in Enrique)
Sounds pretty decent to me. It would be nice to see Fabio play more often on the left; by some accounts Fabio is meant to be better than Rafael. Whether that is true or not having Evra in front of him for the DL spot is hindering Fabio's chances of proving it to us. I can see Fergie letting Evra go if he's got what he feels are good enough replacements and we get enough money for Evra. Fergie seems to be pretty talented at knowing when a player is no longer right for Utd and at getting a replacement for them.

I also wouldnt be that surprised if "2-3" implies first team, and there are one or two young squad players added not included in that figure.
Do you mean one or two young squad players brought in or the likes of Welbeck/Diouf/Cleverley coming into the first squad and being given opportunities to play?

Wes Brown was a CB. We can argue all day what his best position is but the point im making is that the fact thats its even up for debate shows the importance of the position.

It wass illustrated perfectly by Rafa Benitez spending a huge amount of his budget on Glen Johnson. A good player but not a game changer. How did that work out?

A top full back is the icing on the cake, its not really part of the cake.

your first post still implies we moved a CB to RB for one game - which blatantly wasnt the case (in fact I would bet that Brown has actually played more games for Utd at RB than he ever has at CB, or maybe you classified Thiery Henry as a winger throughout his Arsenal / Barca days lol)

Totally agree , I really like Fabio as a player but he has been hindered drastically by Evra's brilliant performances (in general) over the last 2 - 3 seasons. I also wouldnt be against Fabio being tried as a left winger like in the Arsenal FA Cup game, think that could also work well (maybe given some more cup runs in that position)

What I actually meant was that 2-3 "senior" players will be bought, but I wouldnt be surprised to see 1 or 2 extras bought in with an eye on 2 -3 years time (ie 17 - 19 year olds who have the talent but might take time to adjust to the physicality etc of the EPL). Not including Cleverley - who is obviously ready now, will probably get a few EPL games at the start of the season and cup games to see if he can cope with the media glare of OT.

I think Fergie will take Welbeck back from what he has said (although that could just be to bump the price tag up lol), I dont particularly see him or Diouf as Utd class, but then Im no scout or manager so what do I know lol

No, my implication was that a CB could be relocated to RB.

I didnt say "one game" or anything like it. I was using the CL as an illustration. I am well aware that Brown played the season at RB.My point was that you can be the best team in Europe without a recognised RB.

He wasnt that much of a CB, he was always considered more versatile than just one position - and yes the implication was there, but I accept you didnt intend it :)

Fair play! :)

The point i was trying to make was that the flexibilty is possible. To win the CL we needed a good GK and a good MF and good strikers etc but we got away with wes at full back who by anyones standards isnt the greatest RB in the world. Its not a vital position in the team.

Miklosko played well against us, it doesnt mean he is worth a fortune. Neurer is a good keeper but not significantly better by playing well against us.

I do wonder whether a lot of the people raving about Neurer have seen him play more than the 2 games against Utd.

And for his excellent performance in the first leg, he was pretty crap in the 2nd leg.

Decent keeper but not the superstar some people were making out after the 1st leg against Utd.

Absolutely. I agree 100%.

Conversley i actually think he is a decent keeper but not because he had a "worldy" against us.

I never said it had anything to do with just one game.

If anything (just from the two Utd games) he SHOULD be cheap considering the mistakes in the OT game

He is Germany's No 1, he has been performing well for the last few seasons in the Bundesliga, and he is still very young

He must have been pretty average in the World Cup........

Sorry! :)

I wonder how many people in the UK think its a steal based on one game??

Probably quite a lot. Myself, I think its a good price because £13m isnt a huge amount to pay for a full international these days, and its a good price for a decent keeper who has maybe 15 years of his career yet to come.

Im sure you watched him in the WC didnt you?

Apart from one game, he was a constant in the German team (even assisting a Klose goal against England.....although I admit I didnt recall that)
