Fletcher was supposed to be that striker last year, and has finally started to show why we spend a bit of money on him. We do only have 3 Strikers of note though. Doyle isnt an out and out scorer, Ebanks-Blake needs to start scoring a bit more and Fletcher has only just started to show what he can do.
Keogh, Vokes etc dont appear good enough to make the step up.
As for defenders, Roger Johnson close to signing according to the Express & Star, and the deal for O'Hara is also close. I expect to see Milijas leave as a result, and be replaced with someone else.
That said, I have also seen that Stefan Maierhofer is not being signed by some 2nd Div german side as they cannot afford him. I hope to god we get rid of him quickly!
I was thinking about this, apparently he's in the middle of changing his agent. If it was announced as done while he's still technically with his old agent then he would be liable to pay that agent fees as well wouldn't he? So I don't think it can be 'announced' as confirmed until he's finished switching to Mendes.

I don't think you can simply change agent and sign for a new club the next day and avoid paying your old agent. Carroll sacked his agent months before moving to Liverpool and his old agent is claiming lost earnings. And Fergie's announcement wouldn't have helped De Gea if that's the case.
I suspect the main reason for releasing the news was to take some of the attention off Giggs.
edit: And Downing to Liverpool reports have come back. The other week he confirmed he's happy at Villa and in talks over a new deal and then today he's said he's at the crossroads of his career and won't committ to a new deal at Villa now.

Not surprised, he has an insane goal rate since moving to Porto, although I suppose one could point out that there is only really 3 decent teams in the portugese league so that might partly account for the goal rate, but its an impressive tally none the less. Something mad like 70 goals in 80 games or something iirc.

I think Suarez and Honda running at defences, twisting and turning, would scare defenders witless. Not to mention the free kicks. The lucrative asian market and the awesome fans songs potential for Honda.
