Daily Fail reporting that Wenger is weighing up a £4mill bid for WBA's Odemwingie...again just a rumour but its starting to grate on me that Wenger isnt going to spend big money on bringing world class players into Arsenal...Wenger yet again showing that he always takes the cheap option rather than spend some serious moolah on players.

Dont know much about Odemwingie tbh...is he any good??

Stop complaining about the players he's looking at when you don't know if the player is indeed any good or not, it's ridiculous.

For £4m Odemwingie would make an extremely good squad player. I think he's a better player than Bendtner, for possibly less money. Can't complain at that deal if it turns out to be true.

Just seen the season they were relegated Newcastle were preparing to offer Owen a contract extension worth 140k a week. :o He actually did them a huge favour by leaving!

Would have done them even more of a favour if he hadnt run his contract down and left on a free. If he hadnt of done that they could have sold him for some money instead :)

Hmm can't really compare the two, Odemwingie isn't really a tall target man is he? Not that it matters because Bendtner might as well have been a winger the way that Wenger used him when he actually bothered to play him.

Eboue, Diaby, Denilson, Almunia, Rosicky, Clichy maybe, those are all players who should be out before Bendtner, I'm not sure if I rate Chamakh higher than Bendtner as Bendtner hasn't had that many chances to impress, he's never had a long run in the team really, if he was playing week in, week out in his best position then I think he'd improve but obviously have nothing to base that on. Wenger hasn't exactly done wonders in buying the right player for the right position, he'd rather buy a load of central midfielders and strikers and then play them in a formation that doesn't even suit them. :/

You can compare the 2 because Bendtner was never going to get in the team as a target man type of player, because that would mean him playing instead of RvP, which is never, ever going to happen. Also Bendtner has said hasn't he that he want's to leave? So I do think Odemwingie would be Bendtner's replacement, and that way he could well play him out wide if he want's, and he should do fine. I do think Chamakh is better than Bendtner, as you have to remember this is his first season here, which is always the hardest. Even drogba struggled in his first season over here.

I agree with all the players that need to go, but I just can't bring myself to say Clichy needs to go, I think he would be worth another year, with a more solid back 4. He probably wouldn't look anywhere near as suspect(I hope!).

Spurs have just signed Friedel

Obviously an improvement over Gomes

@OptaJoe
H2H - Friedel v Gomes Conceded 59-39, Clean Sheets 7-7, Saves/game 2.8-3.7, Save % 64%-74%, Catch success 96%-96%, Errors 2-5. Comparison.

Not such an obvious improvement?

I don't understand Friedel. I personally think he's a "better" keeper then Gomes, but he's 40! He's can't have much left in him.

Friedel is a lot better than Gomes.

he isn't. some of the shots he saves are incredible as are some of the howlers. if he can knock the howlers on the head, we have a great keeper with us. he was instrumental in us getting 4th last season, our strikers were instrumental in us not getting 4th this season.

He's rubbish,come on!

He'll never knock the howlers on the head though as they've been part of his game even when he was at PSV

You can blame the strikers but amount of the points Gomes cost you last season were as equally as bad, practically handed Chelsea 4 points and was at fault for at least 3 of Real Madrid's goals over the two legs also

I can't believe even Newcastle were that stupid to offer him that sort of deal in the position they were in.

If Redknapp has his way, he'll be off in a year so as long as Friedel's got another year in him it's enough for Redknapp.

Friedel has his 2 year deal and first team football which he wants and Redknapp's got a reasonably reliable keeper to see him by until the England job comes along. Everybody's happy.

I agree BUT, I always thought a manager should try and build a legacy, not just a team. Ah well :)

Edit, I agree about Newcastle too :p

Getting bothered about the players we are getting linked with

Young, Downing, Barton, Henderson

I really was hoping that with the new ownership we would have set our sights quite a bit higher
I agree. It's not so much the players as the prices that I'm worried about.

They are good future/squad players but not the backbone of a new first team squad and at those prices it's not going to leave a lot in the bank to buy the quality of player we need now.

Gomes is gash. Whats the point in making incredible saves like he does, then let a howler in 5 minutes later, doesn't exactly give the back four confidence. He had a great 5-6 months last year, but is a confidence player which is fine for a striker but not for a keeper. Friedel will give us a good couple seasons, while we look for a good young keeper.

Not only that, but they are apparently proud of it:

Llambias added to the claims that the former England man is only interested in the money by disclosing how much he was paid during his time at Newcastle.

He was quoted as saying by the Express: “I’m very disappointed. Under Kevin Keegan’s management he was offered a one-year extension at £140,000 a week which he did not take. He was already on £133,000. His time here cost £40-odd million, about £1.3m per goal."

I'll miss Gomes if he does go. His save against Arsenal is the best I've ever seen in the flesh. Spurs were getting bombarded and needed a win to have any chance of CL football. The second angle shows what a great save it was. His hand comes out of nowhere. Big save in a big game.

If you only ever see Gomes on MOTD then it's easy to remember the gaffs and forget the regular world class saves. Friedel will be more consistent but he won't help Spurs pick up a greater number of points.

If those quotes are legit then that's ridiculous. At the time they offered him the deal there was a very real chance they were going to be relegated (which they were obviously) so to commit to paying somebody over £7m per year was suicide.
