Where do you see him playing next season mcbain? Ready for united or would a year loan do? I remember he was a beast when he played against utd but obviously we need to focus on his development now.

I see it being difficult for him to displace Ferdinand or Vidic next season, but the progress this lad has made in the last 18 months is staggering, really shows his potential.

Give him 1/2 years of playing time (maybe 1 via loan back to Rovers) and I believe he'll be up there with the best centre halves in the league.

He's got everything; strength, pace, positional sense, great in the air, puts his body on the line. Pretty much everything you need as a central defender. He's never been a central midfield player though, centre half is by far his best position.

Whats the order of center backs now?

Vidic > Rio > Smalling / Jones > Evans > Brown?

More or less, vidic rio first choice and if both fit will play every game. Smalling might be a touch ahead of jones to start but can also play on the right. Brown is off and I don't know about evans.

Have to say it is nice to see Fergie steadily working his way through my transfer checklist.

What will he do when he has worked his way though Goalkeeper, another centre half, left winger (Young can play left wing), midfield enforcer, another left back and then he gets to................ another top class striker.

Will he go the whole hog?

Bare in mind Rio is likely to miss a large number of games (he has for the last 3 seasons), Vidic is also likely to miss a number of 1st XI matches

Without even considering CC matches, and early FA Cup + any suspensions and other injuries, dont see it being much of an issue

Probably means Evans (and Brown) are on their way out (if Jones isnt being loaned back, which could be a viable option)

If i recall correctly he never hired an agent. All his contract dealings he did himself. His relatively low wages reflect the kind of player he was as well though. He turned up, played his game and went home. He was never interested in the glitz and the glamour and the controversy that seems so irresistible to the vast majority of these players.

I always got the impression that he genuinely was just happy to be out there playing football. That someone wanted to pay him to do it was just the icing on the cake.

I know - exactly why I said he is one of the few one can actually believe that to be the case :)

older players usually take a slight pay cut towards the end of their career don't they?

Probably slight yes - but it also wouldnt have been a surprise to see him on £100k now either (after a paycut)

Anyone getting the suspicion that Fergie is after AY for the midfield option he brings rather than anything wide (while we could afford Sneijder - while maybe not as easy as other clubs admittedly - his and Rooney's area of the pitch overlap considerably, and Rooney could easily become a less important player to the team; and Modric is likely to cost £35m ++ with his new deal and importance to the team, without even considering Levy's excellent negotiating tactics with Utd).

Would really like a proper defensive mid player at the club now OH has left which we arent even close to having at the club

Taggart's finally seen the light and realised you do know better than him after all? :p

£12m bid for Brown, Gibson and O'Shea has reportedly been accepted. Sunderland getting taken to the cleaners just like we did after selling Torres.

Sunderland have bid for brown + Gibson? Anything over 25mill an we should accept.

????

I hope thats a joke, any figure at all offered for that pair should see them shown the door.
Browns injuries are tiresome and Gibson is never a United player in a billion years.
