I'm not sure how we're going to use Young let alone Sanchez! One or the other please.

He will depose one of them straight away, he is not as flashy as Nani but he offers better Corner and free kick taking options while doing most of the good stuff Nani does, and he is better at Valencia at everything.

The ideal line up would have Nani and Young on the wings, swapping wings like Ronaldo used to do.

I should think that Nani leaving is the most likely reason for signing Young.

Never heard so many high pitch brummies going off on the Radio tonight at the prospect of Alex Mcleish being their next manager, priceless. I swear that some of them were going to have a heart attack. :D

TBF you've got a point, very exciting talent Sanchez is but I'd prefer us to been actively looking to sign a central midfielder rather than another winger who likes to play in Rooney's postion

Obviously Sanchez and said central midfielder are both welcome though

Can't we please, please, please, just buy a ****ing central midfielder?

I'm actually surprised how few we've been linked with.

It's actually quite concerning really :/

Only shed of light I can find is that we were in desperate need for a new central midfielder prior to end of last season and since then we've lost Scholes to retirement and all signs point towards Gibson being sold also which puts us down to Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson & to a lesser extent Giggs and Cleverly so surely someone will be signed...

Maybe a centre mid will be the last minute August 31st deal where Levy screws us sideways for Modric :o

Would love Sneijder and Sanchez at Old Trafford, but I doubt it will happen :( Then selling Carrick would be the icing on the cake :D

Another thing with Sanchez is that he is very small and not that strong from what i have seen so the Prem could be terrible for him and before you know it we have another Robinho etc whos only bothered v Chelsea etc

Try sell him again and he will be worth 15m or something which is all he is worth really anyways if proven players like Young etc are only 15m+ also.

I think Sanchez would do fine in the Prem league. Serie A is quite a physical league and he does ok there.

IMO we've needed to beef up centre mid since Keane left and we STILL haven't done a good job of it. I thought Hargreaves was going to solve some of that problem, but with all his injuries he never ended up becoming a regular. With him effectively leaving this year as well we now only have Anderson and Carrick as CMs. Fletcher is played as a CM, but he came into the side as a RM and to me isn't the 'total CM' we need. He's great in the harrying Park-esque role but he's not what we need to replace Scholes.

If we don't buy a decent CM, I worry we're not going to be winning much next season - we certainly won't beat Barca (or arguably the other good CL teams) in the CL if it's another makeshift midfield year.

One of two things will happen regarding a midfielder, he will either waste all summer with Modric and spurs and spend twice what the player is worth to get him.
OR it will be a completely left field signing with no warning.

I'm leaning towards the former.

Fletcher only started off in the first team wide right to give him experience rather than chucking him in at the deep end, whatever you think of him he is without a doubt a central midfielder rather that a wide player

Fletcher is by no definition of the term "wide player".

He gets around the park and he gets after other players and is relatively tidy in the middle, however when Fletcher plays on the right, Stanley Matthews turns in his grave.

Was that not where he played with the youth team? (right side)

Is it possible SAF will use Cleverly as a CM for part of the season and see how he gets on? And if there are any problems, he could get someone in January? What do people think?

Transfer deadline day, we will get someone :p

We were so weak without fletcher or scholes this year

What the **** is Wenger playing at flirting with Gervinho in an ACoN year, has he learnt nothing from the days of Toure, Lauren, Eboue and Adebayor all jetting off together during crucial parts of the season every 2 years?
