...how he will react to Levy's clear refusal to sell.

With a formal transfer request, which is very likely the reason why this statement was released.

Who knows, maybe Levy's being serious but I suspect this statement is more to do with covering the clubs back if and when he does leave and saving paying any 'loyalty' payments to Modric.

Lets say he puts in a transfer request, I can see Spurs putting a silly price on him that clubs won't be prepared to offer. I think he'll stay personally, but maybe I'm just optimistic.

It's all about appeasing the fans. By putting in a transfer request, Levy can then justify his sale to the fans by claiming you had little choice but to sell him.

Not saying that he's actively trying to sell Modric but I'm sure there's a realism on his part that it's incredibly difficult to keep him in the situation you're in and he wants to cover his/the clubs backside.

I wouldn't be surprised if the comments attributed to Modric turn out to be BS in all honesty, but even if they're not, it's about time football clubs stood up to players.

The quotes appear legit. And the idea of clubs standing up to players is great but isn't very practical. It all depends on how set on leaving the player is and the bargaining power of the selling club.

It was the same when we sold carroll. Statements released he wasnt getting sold. Liverpool have a £30 million bid rejected, Carroll hands in a "transfer request", Liverpool come back with £35million. Sold

Pardew even said when he signed his contract he didnt want any of the players sold. Look at us now, No Carroll, no Nolan, Enrique not signing a contract, Bartons on his way out. We are pretty much getting rid of the team that got us back up and upto 12th in our 1st season back, one win away from finishing 8th.

Other news though, just seen we have signed another player so its not all looking bad but he is another free transfer. We still have £30 odd million to spend with the Carroll money and Nolan money so hopefully we should get to see some more players come in. Personally we need cover for LB, RB a new CB and another striker in. Will do me perfect if we can get some good quality players in

I think he will as well, unlike previous years Spurs have a strong ambitious manager now not just a yes man like Jol or Ramos, I suspect previously when the likes of Carrick and Berbatov were sold the managers then didn't put up much of a fight to keep the player I can see Arry putting everything behind keeping Modric at the club for this summer at least

Read somethig yesterday. Since august 09 aqualani has more assists than modric in the PL? Anyone know where I can check that?

Modric's game isn't purely playmaking, he's more about binding a midfield together and releasing more attacking outlets. He's a hardworking deep lying playmaker who makes great probing runs and rarely gives the ball away.

Apparently Levy was all for making Berbatov stay, but Ramos decided that he didn't want anyone at the club who wanted to go elsewhere.

The Premier League site. Modric's got 3 assists in each of the last 2 seasons. Aquilani got 6 in half a season.

I don't buy that at all. Levy kicked up a fuss to get as much money as possible for Berbatov.

3 assists a season? that just doesn't compute. an awful lot of our build up which lead to goals came through him, though if by assist they mean the final ball then fair enough.

i'd have berbatov back :D

in other news, pav was busted for doing 50mph in a 30 in his lambo and has been banned frpm driving for 6 months ........ he didn't even have a licence

Yes, an assist simply means the final ball. It's not the best way of judging players as the final pass isn't always the key pass and you're also reliant on the quality of the strikers you're passing the ball to.
