Well yes we said that because we didn't know the rules would change did we. It hard to predict who will win if they keep taking away what makes a certain car fast when it suits.
Anyone can make a title close if you do that, if they had banned the Brawn Diffuser after 7 races the car would have been in the midfield. Now wouldn't that have been fun. Or banned williams endless gadgets in 92 after 4 races and watched someone else win the title.
I'm sick of seeing Nadal win all the time, how about every time he goes 2 sets up he's not allowed to use his backhand anymore until it's all square.
Who wants to win a title by default because they ban every thing your rival has come up with that was legal when they built the car. Lewis looked smug and couldn't help smiling like a chesire cat talking about Red Bull now having lost their advantage. Great way to win the title Mclaren.
It's made me into a Vettel fan. I hope he wipes the floor with them on pace unlike fans of other drivers who hope Vettel DNFs.
Some typically blinkered views of F1 from dannyjo22. The 'Brawn' diffuser (didn't 4 teams have double diffusers, and then a number of other teams build them). So I assume you are just convineiently ignoring the fact that most of the top teams have EBD and Quali engine maps as it would ruin your "they are only penalising RBR" argument?
F1 has always been about the FIA pegging back developments made by teams. The EBDs are being banned at the end of the season, just like the F duct and the DD and loads of other stuff. The difference with the off throttle mappings and quali maps is they are just software. There is no complete redesign needed of the cars to implement this, therefore it can be implemented immediately. The FIA are applying restrictions at the pace that matches the speed at which they can be removed. If the ban means a redesign and re-homologation of the entire tub, then clearly this will have to wait a while, or till the end of the season. If the change is to 'not plug a laptop in after Qualifying' then it hardly needs months of time to implement does it...

So other people aren't allowed to hope Vettel DNFs, but you're allowed to constantly shout about the McLarens DNF?
dannyjo22 is allowed to have any opinion he makes up, so long as it disagrees with everyone else and allows him to remain centre of attention.

I was just wondering why you think its a ridiculous and stupid rule change, considering the existing parc ferme regulations? If anything, its ridiculous and stupid that its been allowed to go on at all in the first place.
Perhaps because there's an explicit exception in the rules for engine maps, so I and others agree that it's retarded halfway through the season. Like f-duct and DD should have been left till the end of the season and banned in 2012.
I disagree. Its a free change that can be implemented immediately. It is also one that is the result of the FIA deciding to ban something off their own back, whereas the F Duct and DD bans were the results of teams protesting to the FIA. Infact the FIA investigated both DD and F Ducts and deemed them both perfectly legal.

That's becuase there are explicit rules that allow the fia to changes rites wring if they feel that the tests are replicating race conditions. So. Again it's not similar.

No, its not. So how about we all just accept that its happened, its the way F1 is, and get on with watching the show. I do often wonder what all the people moaning about things in F1 are aiming to achieve?
If Vettel has a shocker of a second half of the season and someone else wins the title, are you going to storm into the presentation ceremony and demand they give it to Vettel, blaming the engine mapping ban for him loosing the title? Even if the guy who wins it is from a team who were also using off throttle and quali engine maps?

Wondered how long untill the 'discussion' argument would appear. There is an EBD thread, a Canada thread, a few other threads, and now this thread, and all of them contain people complaining about how they think the EBD ban is stupid and aimed solely at RBR.

Didn't they initially announce there plans to ban this stuff before Spain? So they have had 2 races so far, and another one this weekend before the ban on off throttle mapping is implemented. Taking 8 weeks to implement a ban on some values in a few lines of code is slow by any measure.
True, this bit was aimed more at certain other users (dannyjo22) who seem to think this is all an FIA conspiracy to slow RBR, not you, sorry.
But then the question must be asked, if its a change in the rules that affects nearly all the teams (or all the teams that matter), whats the problem?
Just a quick question, how many of you complaining about the ECU mapping or EBD change gave a dam about the mid season rule change last year regarding wing mirrors? Red Bull were placing the mirrors in a position to provide the best aero advantage.
