European Grand Prix 2011, Valencia Street Circuit - Race 8/19

Do we know how many races Vettel's engine has left in it's cycle before it gets replaced?
If this is the last race, they could still run a near quali map that will kill the engine, but as it won't be needed after, it just has to last the race.

I'd go for a Vettel Pole and Alonso 2nd, Hamilton 3rd.

Hamilton to DNF from the lead of the GP due to a reliability issue.

Monday mornings headline, Hamilton spends 20 minutes with Horner crying in the motor home.

The strange thing about Hamilton and RBR is that right now, McLaren is arguably the fastest race car right now. Button showed in Canada how fast the McLaren could go. In Monaco, Button was right on the tail of Alonso, before the red flag.

If Hamilton can finish races, there is no reason why he couldn't win every race from here on in. The same goes for Alonso who also, now, has a race winning car.

The simple truth is that Vettel is in fantastic form and is avoiding trouble. Qualifying in pole of course, helps.

I only wish that Button could do what he did in Canada, in every race...ie. balls to wall, take no prisoners.

Well they have 8 engines that they can use whenever they like in whatever order the like. So the engine that he uses may be brand new or 2 races old or only have some FP1 running on it, we just don't know. Even so, the Quali map isn't just hard on the engine, it burns a substantial amount more fuel which you would have to start the race with negating the effect over the race distance.

No team would use a Quali map for the race as it's just not feasible.

So, Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel finished up as the top 3, today, in that order.

More interestingly it finished

Ferrari
Mclaren
RBR
Mercedes
Ferrari
Mclaren
RBR
Mercedes

Don't think i've ever seen that in any practice quali or race before. Each teams "number 2" driver finishing in the same order as the number 1s.

Still only FP2 of course.

That is an interesting finishing order.

Some people have said that Vettel has this year's title done and dusted, but I can't help feel that this is not the case. In the last 2 races, McLaren and Ferrari have both been faster, in race trim and it is only down to Vettel's superb form and luck that he has managed to get a win and 2nd place. By rights, he shouldnt have been on the podium at Monaco or Canada.

I think we may be in for fantastic rear guard defence, akin to what we saw from Button, in 2009. It is quite possible that Vettel may not win another race this season, especially if Alonso and Hamilton begin to fire on all cylinders.

I am starting to wonder the same thing. It only takes a DNF or two for Vettel and the others could be back in it. The only problem is, they all keep taking points off each other leaving Vettel to leap ahead.
