I'd take a midfield 3 of Mikel sitting behind Ramires and Lampard over Essien sitting behind Ramires and Lampard.

Essien is a better player but not a better defensive midfielder than Mikel and I'd say that Ramires alreadly looks like he can do every Essien can do plus more.

Mikel is better defensively when they have 2 holding mid's, on his own he seems to crumble.

he has come along slightly but i dont think i would want to rely on him being the defensive mid against someone like barcelona in the champions league final, when it comes to the crunch he is a disaster waiting to happen.

I'd take Lucas over Mikel

I'd agree there's far better DM's than Mikel but he's better than Essien in that role which is all I said. I don't believe that however long Essien is out for, is going to be that much of a blow to Chelsea's first 11.

I really thought all this Nasri stuff was just agent talk to try and get him a better deal.

Sad times when Wenger can't even keep hold of a frenchie :p

:p Do you reckon Modric will still be there at the close?

If either of them move I reckon most likely is Nasri to Chelsea, Modric to Utd both for around 30 million a piece. Unless City comes in with a bid of 200 million for both of them or something of course :p

I don't understand the hysteria around Arsenal. They will probably sell Nasri and Fabregas is almost certain to leave, but Wenger I think has also shown that he wasn't happy with a lot of the squad last season, by admitting he needs to spend money, which is something I can't remember him ever saying.

It's bad if they don't replace the players, but not until then.

With the amount of trouble Levy has personally gone to in order to clarify his position on Modric this time, I think he'll remain a Spurs player in September, yes.

With Berbatov, I think it was just the one statement on the site but certainly not the same level of denial as there is this time.

How can Levy say that Modric is not going anywhere regardless of the offer, I mean if someone offered 50m for him, would he reject? I imagine if Essien is out for Chelsea then I can see them getting desperate and you may see another Torres like offer..

Because he has to. It would be pointless saying he isn't going anywhere then admitting if a ridiculous offer came in he'd be let go.

Needed to say it's not going to happen in order to put the thought out of Modric's head and to prevent, or at least put off any further bids that may further unsettle him.

Don't think modric will go but arsenal won't be able to hold on to nasri - if they do he'll leave for nothing next year. Better to take the money.

Looks like Meireles could be on his way out the door fairly soon. The Telegraph are reporting that he won't travel out with the squad this Sunday on our Far East tour. Not much details on where he could be going to though:

edit: Our failure to receive a big enough offer for Aquilani might be part of the reason Meireles will be sold. While I like Meireles, Aquilani's a very similar player and imo better.

I see Fabregas has a mysterious 'muscle injury' preventing him travelling on the pre-season tour with Arsenal. Ominous.

Lets review history shall we, Arsenal for years have been big girls in the transfer window, unable to both attract the best players, nor willing to spend for them.

Running it like big girls or running it like a business

Personally I am happy with the way they run the club. Admittedly I would love some big name signings but I am also happy to support the team through thick and thin. We are still competing for things but we are just coming up short. Spending huge amounts of money does not mean that we will be more successful.

Someone mentioned you are a glass half full type of person. Personally I think you are an empty glass.

I would love to know where you are getting your information from about Nasri wanting loads of money? All I have read is that he wants success. Either prove he has said it or please stop making up lies.

I actually think Modric might stay

Nasri to City
Sneijder to us

would be my preferred outcome :)

Im surprised you want Sneijder (as Im not allowed to call him Wes lol) given the concern about him occupying similar space to Rooney etc?

That kind of player should put Utd on a different level for sure

Didnt Essien have one or two decent seasons at Chelsea before the injuries took their toll- I was absolutely gutted that Utd didnt sign him (I think we tried late on but to no avail). I havent studied him in detail but he isnt the player he was when he first arrived in England , personally still take him over Mikel though...although Ive always thought Essien was more of a box to box player a la Keane or Hargreaves , where as Mikel for me has always been more defensive mid and not much else
