****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

android would have all the apps in the world open at once if hardware allowed that to be possible. you should not have to close any apps (definitely on a phone of this spec). if they are duff apps, report and remove it. task killers are evil!

Point is you can stop all your apps you have finished with from running in back ground instead of having to pop into task manager to see what is still running..

no apps (or very few) actually run in the background. once it's off your screen it's out of the cycle of apps running so it's no different from closing it with a task killer. an example of an app running in the background is the music app or the navigation app. web browser for instance isn't running when it goes off screen, nor is the messaging app, the weather etc. could be wrong but i'm sure this is the case.

in setting account and sync, click on google setting,

not sure on sound

Thanks dude I did that before but calendar kept giving me messages about how it can't sync with google calendar - I just ignored them this time and it worked :)

REALLY miss not being able to differentiate between getting an email and getting a text message - even my crappy ol ZTE Blade gave the option to have seperate notifications :(

You can set notifications in the individual apps. For example, go into the stock email app, press menu and select account settings, scroll down and there is an option to change the ringtone. AFAIK, most of the communication apps have this, such as stock mail/messaging, Handcent, Go SMS, K9 Mail, etc.

I literally just found it like 10 minutes ago in K9-mail settings. Thanks dude - I was looking in the generic settings for the phone!.

thanks guys :)

what r u on about... the deal i posted which is the hottest deal of the week on hotukdeals

it is what it is!

£99 for the phone
12 month contract
£30 per month
400 cross network mintues
1000 texts
1gb web data
+£30 cash back
My maths makes it
Total for 12 months = £459.99
Quidco is also available -£30
so Total around = £429.99

you confuse me and yourself

Wow, what can I say.

You are doing comparisons of contracts of different lengths, so to compare like for like, you either gross up the 12 month contract to 24 months, or reduce the 24 month period to a comparable 12 month one.

You argument is akin to:

12 months rent is £120

24 months rent is £230

12 months is cheaper and hence the better deal.

Whereas the cost per month is cheaper in the second deal.

When you make comparisons, it is wise to make them on a equal basis.

What you are not grasping is the fact that after a 12 month contract you are free to go on a rolling sim only contract on any network and the cost for the next 12 months will be cheaper via this route than a 24 month contract.

Also consider the flexibility of being in contract for a shorter period of time.

OK so, a comparable 12 month contract that gives 600 mins, unlimited texts and internet with no FUP is how much?

I estimated £20, which to me sounds reasonable and included it in the comparison.

i can get one second hand (only 2 weeks old) from someone for £340 should i go for it?

would need to shift the DHD for around £200 at a later date

i know im still shocked, i bothered to find the deal and spell it out... but na!

jeees if you can get a 12 month contract for £300 less than a 24 month one.......well that is the mutts nuts, you then become free to move to another provider, haggle a better deal, flip between 12 month or rolling contract, payasyougo, or get a new shiny Samsung galaxy s3! :D
